  1. yeah my suggestion was black limba maybe even tinted a bit darker with a maple veneer between them
  2. i have a customer who is wanting a guitar with a purpleheart top, wenge neck and ebony fretboard. i did a mock up on a pic of a guitar iv done with that neck, mahogany back and bubinga top, and the mahogany and purpleheart looked awful together with the dark neck. it looks as though a darker wood would suit it better so...what wood will not only look good with the wenge neck and purpleheart top, but will also be a good compliment to the sound? any opinions? oh, and he wants natural wood so painting isnt an option. if it comes down to it a transparent coat might be ok, but wanted to see if anyone has any ideas
  3. well after many many paint problems its getting there again. still waiting for the body to cure a bit more but the headstocks done. no point having a full pic yet as the boards still taped up waiting for frets to be done. as the paint was kinda doing it itself anyway, i thought id give it a checked old nitro look. and this is the back - the other half of my £5 find. not a bad neck for £2.50
  4. theres nothing on the wood or anything like that. it only happened when i put the clear on so it must be something in that reacting with something that just happens to be there. its not in exactly the same place, just in the general area. and when i stripped it back first time i made sure it was all clean and everything. just me and my bad luck continuing. im about ready break a lot of things
  5. well iv calmed down a bit so im giving it one more chance. its almost exactly the same place as before. im misting some colour coats over the front. i'll have to wait and see what happens when i get some clear on it
  6. yeah it hasnt gone right. twice more. im sick of it. im done.
  7. all his other bridges and stuff are available seperately so i think this might be at some point in the future. which would be good
  8. there was a guitarist interview or feature on him a couple of years ago and there was a caption on a picture that mentioned this but nothing in the article itself. iv been waiting ever since for this
  9. i think it looks great in the pics how the edge is slightly different. the headstock looks like its glowing! but i guess how it looks in person and how it looks in pics is always different so you're on your own with this one it seems
  10. iv got the binding on again. STUPIDLY tried acetone to fix it on. which in itself wouldnt be a bad idea, only i had primed it BEFORE putting the binding on this time, so it melted the paint as well. idiot. but it was only on a little bit and i quickly went back to superglue. SHOULD be ready for colour coats in the next day or two. again
  11. same here. i was worried that all the hardware would detract but it works really well. the only thing i dont like about this is the headstock. it just doesnt seem to fit somehow
  12. yeah i really like it with the white binding and scratchplate. and its been what i was going to do when i first came up with the design. this time it WILL go right damn it!!!!
  13. there was a big patch on the front that was reacting for no reason and i just got angry today and took the whole lot off. and the binding suffered as a result too
  14. i got pissed off. all that finish has been taken off. bindings coming off tomorrow and will be redone, then refinish
  15. thief!!!!! hehe i think i agree about the less is more approach in regard to the hardware with this one. but as its yours i guess its up to you on a side note - it took my 15 minutes to cut out one petal the other night. and there are 257 pieces!!! o dear
  16. when its hardened off tomorrow it needs a bit of scraping to get the lines clean but other than that its not bad obviously binding needs scraping clean but again, almost ready for clear
  17. nope none of that.it'll just be long long hours with my little saw and painstaking tinyness hehe
  18. its diamond blue actually an old ford colour. i tried getting sonic blue but they couldnt do it. then i tried dione blue (which is toyata and really really close to sonic) but they could only do that in two pack which cost almost three times as much as regular. then we found diamond blue so i went with that. heres the lapsteel with all its bits on. nothing glued or sanded or anything hence it still looking rough as bugger oh and avenger - i found my old design for the cherry blossom inlay/soundhole and scanned it specially for you. photoshopped the inlayed bits so you can see what i meant it to be like. not too far off what you did huh?
  19. i love those veneers (anita yes?). a headstock just looks so much classier with a black veneer back
  20. just brushed a bit on to see what the colour would be like. obviously will look better sprayed with primer underneath and clear on top
  21. hehe o well. does look coolies tho. i was wondering if it would look good or not when i thought about it. now i can see it does
  22. oooo you bugger!!!! one of my models is called 'sakura' - japanese for cherry blossom - and i was one day gonna either inlay something like that or do pretty much exactly what you've done. i hate you
  23. not too much difference but it has a fretboard now woo not too much difference here either but its now got 'frets' and a bit of shaping to the curvy bits
  24. lapsteel mockup. doesnt have the 'frets' in yet and here you go. thats how i got such a good join hehe
