  1. Headstock veneer done. Finally today I have a couple hours to myself to get this moving forward a bit. I'll try to get all the cavities and string throughs done at least.
  2. Headstock shaped, frets leveled, neck rough shaped. Went for a pretty thin and wide D profile. Checking for bridge placement with some string and print copy.
  3. Neck pocket done. My ghetto template, some hot glue and maple strips. Didn't have any double stick tape and didn't want to drive to the store. It'll sand out.
  4. Thought why not since there's some extra room and it'll be single pickup, so I made some extra "frets" 25 and 26.
  5. Fret markers done, UV powder + resin.
  6. Fretboard radiused, rough sketched the headstock. Not sure if I'll use this one again or make something new. Drew the tuner holes too far at least. The streaked ebony looks lovely to me.
  7. Man this has been slow moving. Truss rod installed and fretboard glued when the wife wasn't looking.
  8. Thanks guys! It's not perfect but getting better.
  9. That's a tight vote, honestly expecting this to win. Looking great!
  10. My first "fancy" build. Let's call it "The Butterknife". (For the headstock). Pretty simple, 25.5" scale, ebony fretboard, maple neck, ash body, quilted maple top, ss frets, EMG's. Was my 8th build. I wanted to dip my hand in something "pretty" PRS'esque. It has it's issues but alright for a first try.
  11. 1" is plenty thick for bolt on. Necks I've made are 23mm thick with the fretboard, and that's slightly on the chunky side. YMMV but I've made the necks with an orbital sander, 40 grit discs and long even longitudinal swipes. This avoided most of the uneven bumps and took around an hour to finish a neck shape. I don't have the patience to use rasps. Obv. you need to be aware of how deep your truss rod is in the neck. For fender style headstock I've used these: https://guitarsandwoods.com/hard-maple-blank-for-neck.html?search=maple neck blank For tilt headstock these have been long enough: https://guitarsandwoods.com/hard-maple-blank-for-bass-neck-1166819049.html?search=maple neck blank
  12. That's some pretty looking wood, nice job! IME making a neck is much easier than the body, don't be intimidated to make your own. Much more fun to play too.
  13. This will be set neck so that works with the slim body. I hope. Pickup will be 81-7XH (regular humbucker housing) with pickup ring so the depth won't be an issue.
  14. Yeah that's why I'm thinking single vol/pu only.
  15. Will be 27" scale, maple neck, ebony fretboard, ash body, ss frets, single pu, vol. All dyed black and tru oil finish. Very rough and raw metal guitar. Body is really thin, only 30mm or so.
  16. You can get magnets for everything from supermagnete.de. Good product, nice people.
  17. Thanks Mike. It was really a pain. I started thinking maybe it's better to get it painted by the local auto shop. Would've been cheaper than the 8 rattle cans of nitro at least! At least it felt like the satin white surface was sucking in dust from the air. Once I thought it was finally done, then the next day I saw little black spots that wouldn't sand out. Only after putting a coat of clear it stopped sucking dirt in.
  18. Thanks Mike! It was a real pita to get the white finished.
  19. Done is done! Probably my best quality yet. Couple small issues but nothing too obvious.
  20. Nut is cut and shaped, hardware installed. Just needs pickups now. EMG was on just for testing, it'll have passives, most likely SD Custom/Jazz combo.
  21. Here's "Siipi" (it means "wing" in finnish). It's my seventh build, started making these a bit over a year ago to ease the boredom of covid. One piece quartersawn maple neckthrough, ash wings, ebony fretboard. 25.5" scale, stainless frets, graphtech nut, Schaller locking tuners, Hipshot bridge, EMG 81/60 set, EMG PA2 booster. Satin nitrocellulose finish.
  22. Slight change in plans for the strat style one. It'll be a 27" scale 7-string. And most likely I'll try to make it look (somewhat) like this: Anybody used the white dye from TLC guitargoods? I've seen some good looking tops done with it.
