  1. Update Time. @nakedzen I checked the Template, its 48 mm at the nut, 58.35 mm at the 12 fret, 64,5mm at the 24. Had time this weekend to get some work done. First mistake: Was not carefull enough to get a good glueup and endet up with a off-squar edge. Had to split and redo. While the glue dried I routed for the truss rod and cut the headstock angle Next step was slotting and gluing the fretboard. Day 2 in the workshop: Routed the fretboard and the ledge for the binding added the headstock plate and purple heart veneer to the top Since the workshop router broke I have to wait for repairs. Meanwhile I can work on the inlay cutouts. 2 Problems I have. the top cupped a little, now i have to finde a way to get it flat, since its allready to thickness. The body is 48mm I would like to get it down to 42, but the thicknesser and the bandsaw both are just to narrow, so need to build a Router Jig -> more waiting for the router repairs. Thanks for reading. Alucard
  2. The taper is 48mm at the nut to 70mm at the end of the tennon, 4cm after the 25 fret. I can check later what the excate meassurements are.
  3. Hey all, last November I went to Crimson Guitars for a 2 Week Guitar Building course, mainly to focus on Inlay, Binding and Carved top. The Guys over there were awsome. The whole course was filled with positive vibes, creativity and so much knowlage. Here is the outcome of my 2 Weeks. I am really happy, only the Headstock layout needs to be tweaked ever so slightly to be perfect. Carved top with english walnut and some black epoxy in the cracks. Body is Sapele, Neck also Sapele with Walnut Strips from the same log. Crimson custom wound humbuckers and hipshot hardware. Did my first Inlay really simple, but really happy with the outcome, also we did walnut binding with maple veneer for that little extra contrast, have some for my next build with me at home now. Also did an Inlay from an offcut of the fretboard on the headstock, my Initials PS, and as you can see the string pull is slighly off on the base side, since i freehand the headstock shape and went a little to narrow. If you have any question AMA. Cheers Alucard
  4. Hi all, I am back in the workshop for a new Build. After my 2 Weeks Course at Crimson Guitars I came home with loads and loads of Ideas. Now new plans are drawn, new tools bougth and all the hardware and wood has arrived. Time for the workshop: This is what I came up with as a new single Cut design based on my double cut I build last year twice. Also made some templates for the neck, since I now settled on a scale length and width I like Its a 673mm / 26.5" Scale 7 String. 48mm at the Nut. And here the wood selection of the day flamed European Walnut, African Mahagoni, Ebony for the fret board and more Mahagonie, Walnut and Purple heart for the Neck First job was to get it all rough cut and the Walnut book matched to get a look on how its going to look like. oh yeah, did I mentioned its going to be a carved top? So i spend some time with my new ( about 100 years old ) Stanley Nr. 7 to get a nice join. Now all the parts are rough cut, planed and burried under a pile of clamps waiting to dry. Also I bought a dremel and waiting for the router base, this one is getting wood binding and some Inlay work, not yet designed yet, but there is time. For the Hardware, this one is getting Sperzel Trim-Lock 3+4 Tuners and a ToneProse TOM with Through Body Stringing. For Pick-Ups I have a Seymore Duncan Invader for the Bridge and a Lace Aluma X-Bar for the Neck. Hopefully I can get some workshop time once or twice a week. So Updates to come. Cheers Alucard
  5. I would also go with black or none!
  6. She is not wrong though. Yif you know what you are doing this can really help. Lots of roses can get a fuller and brighter blooms if you thin out the early ones. like many things roses are over engineered and produce to many blooms for their own good. but interessting looking body will follow this in detail
  7. ITS DONE Finally had the time to get to the workshop and get the last bits together. It came out really nice.
  8. Everything finished.... Just waiting for the Bareknuckels to get out of customs. And for the Gotho Jack plate.
  9. Really like this build. I have hugh respect for people able to build accoustics. I want to build one someday also but so many jigs and special skills you need
  10. Thanks for all the tips. @Prostheta unfortunally I dont have the neccessary tools for that but nice idea. I think I really have to go with masking and up my finishing game. @Drak I need to check where I get smth like that in Europe. Or maybe I pay someone Automotive shop for the finish.
  11. Thx @ScottR But looks like I need to go 2 steps back. Went in today for the 4th coating of oil and the sund was coming in just right getting it all nice and shiny.... And you could see some swirl marks on the lower right corner on the back. First I thought about leaving it but i bugged me all day. I think I will sand it all down again this weekend
  12. Got the neck finished today and finish sanded. After Sanding it was time for the first layer of oil. I am alway amazed how much the color pops with just some oil really happy with the neck and back also I also could use a cut-off from the fretboard as the cavity cover No on to let the finish build up and way for the last parts to arrive. Still missing the nut, Jackplate and Pickups.
  13. Got some more work done. Finished all routing and carving. Also added a walnut back riser to the neck and got the neck carved. Glued the neck in and testfitted all the hardware. Now to finish the neck transition and lots of sanding.
  14. Hey there, wanted to share a piece I finished last week with you. 7 String Multi-Scale Neck-Through Explorer. 25.5 to 26.5 Scale. EMG 808x Pickups and Hipshot Hardware. Started the neckblank (wenge maple with black red black veneer inbetween ) early last year: but was way to afraid to start carving a way so i let it sit for a really long time. for the Wings I added simple Ash after I routed a slot for cables. Fretboard is a offcut of wenge. Got It all nice and Routed and a new sander also I went for black crimson stain and red grain enhancing filler , the red grain filler only really shines in bright light. But got it all nice and done ( apart from a striped pickup screw i have to replace to get the neck pickup lower )
  15. Unforutunally not... due to the neck beeing only 20mm and i route my pickup cavities 20mm there is nothing left under the pickup. I was thinking about adding some offcut from the top or the fretboard to the neck to give it a bit more meat.
  16. Got some hours in today. Didn't like the plain maple fretmarkers so desided to add some 4mm brass rod: the lots and lots of sanding. Radiused the board and sanded up to P1000 for a nice shine: All the while the top and body got to know each other really well: I got it routed ( spot the one tearout ) and fretted. Hardware arrived today. I hope to get it ready for test fit by the end of the week. Also the neck is only 20 mm thick I think i maybe need to switch from a set neck to a bold on? Or could i still glue the neck in with such a small neckblock?

  19. Hey there, I build this one last year as a test: poplar body ( never again ) and black hardware, black binding and flat white paint job ( rattel can ). I originaly planed to have it look more like the ESP LTD EC-1000 vintage black (https://www.thomann.de/de/esp_ltd_ec1000_vbk.htm ) But I dont know how i would achieve gold / brass color binding. I am planning to have brass rods instead of black and have all gold hardware. I know how they do the ec1000 but i do not have a paint booth to achieve the tinded clear over white binding. any Ideas?
  20. Got the Neck and body cut, routed and the fretboard slotted and glued. Last thing today was to allign the neck an route a really shallow neck pocket. Fretboard got of-centre dots and added a walnut top to the headstock. Schaller Gold and Black Hardware is on the way. Still have to decide if i go for a brass nut or a black Tusq. Also binding on the neck maybe... I hope to get in the shop over the week end to get the neck done and the top glued.
  21. Got some hours in the last 2 day. Have decided and started the neck: Also got a really nice piece of Ebony for the fretboard: This will look awsome.
  22. Psssss naaa its just a phase. And i haven't bought any special tools or things like that
  23. The back will be some nice Limba / Korina. Any recommendations about finishing. I was thinking to use chrimson high build oil on the top, but not sure about the best way to finish limba.
  24. for the neck its still open between a mahagoni purpleheart wenge 5 Piece or a mahagoni wenge maple 5 piece. I am leaning towards the purpleheart one.
