  1. I was leaning at using epoxy. And I thought about going to the bolt on as a last resort. Thanks again.
  2. No, it wasn't that tight of a fit, I could pick it up without the two coming apart put it would become loose. So you think sand as much if not all glue from the pocket and use epoxy?
  3. I would say that it is a bit sloppy, not as perfect as I would have liked. As for fit though it isn't loose at all no movment side to side. and you have to put a little preasure on it to get it in but not alot. So you think I should clean it up and glue the hell out of it?
  4. Thanks everyone for the help. Here are two pics after it came apart. I noticed that there was no glue left on the back of the neck only in the pocket, and the glue looked a bit patchey to me as well. Cure time is not the issue as it was sitting for at least 2 months before it got strings on it. I did clamp it pretty tight, the back of the neck was sanded too 320 not sure if that could be an issue being to smooth. I'm also pretty sure that my joint is sloppy as I said this is the first set neck I every tried. Do you guys think I should try and sand and scape the old glue out, sand the back of the neck where it sits in the pocket to 120, brush more tite bond in thicker and covering the whole pocket evenley sides and all, then reclamp. or would I be better off going with epoxy incase the joint isn't very good? Thanks again, everybody has been a great help. I was amazed how fast I was getting replies to my question. Scott http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q198/im...er/IMG_0713.jpg
  5. Hey everybody, Quick question. I just finished building my first set neck guitar, and when I got it strung up and tuned the glue gave out on the neck to neck pocket joint. I used tite bond professional wood glue. Can anybody tell me what would work, different type of glue maybe? Thanks,
  6. Hey Dayvo, I agree it is more or less up to the player. I have had guitars that were gloss but I have always perfered the feel of my Strat neck. Also I have two guitars that I built and I got a good tip from Ben Crow at www.crimsonguitars.com ( he built the two necks for me ). 5 to 7 coats of teak oil one coat a day, then 5 to 7 coats of tung oil one coat a day, then buff with a soft cloth. It gives the neck a more natural feel. This was for mahogany necks so I can't say how it would work on other woods. Good luck, imgettingcloser
  7. Thanks GUITARmole, I think i'll give it a few days and it should be good to go.
  8. Hey eveybody, Just a qucik question for all. How long do you wait to start spraying sealer coats after useing grain filler? I read in the Stewmac finishing book that you should wait 1 week or you could get a whiteish haze. I'm using all Belhen products and the filler says you can topcoat after 24 hours. So just wondering what the avg. wait time is. Thanks to everyone
  9. I'll take it off your hands. I was going to go with McFadens but what the heck. Do you know if one is better then the other McFadens or Behlen? Anyway i'm in South Carolina. can you take paypal?
  10. That looks great, just wondering though, what did you use on the router to do the perimiter of the carve to keep it at one depth?
  11. How much you looking to get for the paint both? And where are you located?
  12. Hey, Anybody out there have a PRS or LP Double Cut template that they want to sell? I was going to buy one of those from Guitartemplates.com but all I need is the body.
  13. Hello everyone, I'm looking for someone that makes custom necks. I need a set neck for a guitar body i'm building. If anyone does this let me know and I will give more info on what I'm looking for. Thanks
  14. Sorry I'm in the US. It would probable cost more to ship it here then the wood itself.....
  15. Just an update I found some Mahogany, but still looking for Swamp Ash. Thanks
  16. That paint looks great. Can you give me more info on how you got that color? Thats the color I'm looking to do. What brand dye you use? How did you lay it down, by hand rubing the center or did you spray the whole guitar with the black? Any info you can give me would be great.
  17. Hello all, I'm looking for anyone selling Honduran Mahogany and Swamp Ash for a good price. I need the Mahogany to be at least 19 inchs long X 14 inchs wide X 1 3/4 thick. Same size for the Swamp Ash as well. Anybody out there got anything?
  18. Thanks Silver, I checked out your thread on the SG and got alot of great info from it. I think though i'm going to go with a trans black back. Let me also say your son is pretty lucky, that is one nice SG.
  19. Thanks for the fast replies, I'm going to test it first on scrap, I think i'll just make it easy for my first finish and go with a soild brown like this But one thing if I want to leave the mahogany neck a natrual color should I just use a clear gain filler?
  20. Hello all, I'm new here, and have found alot of great info, Thanks to everyone. Between this forum and guitar reranch I have most of finishing a guitar figured out. But the one thing i'm trying to figure out is this, I want to finish my first build with a dark brown translucint back, just want to barley see the mahogany gain though it. I know I have to us a grain filler, but do I dye the mahogany then a coat of sealer then a clear filler then more sealer and finaly the nitro clear. Or do I seal the mahogany then use a grain filler that has brown in it then more sealer and then spray brown dye till it gets to the darkness I want, then the nitro. hope someone can help, I have look all over and have yet to find a direct answer. Thanks
  21. You still have some Honduran Mahogany? I'm looking for a 1 piece blank for a double cut, also a piece of swamp ash for a tele. How much would each cost? Thanks
