  1. Thanks, hopefully should get good marks If its ok, can i use some of your comments in evaluation of aesthetics? Ill just say something like project guitar forum members say... Ben
  2. I think ill be sticking to perfboard, initially for the $$ reason, but also the simplicity reason. Cant wait till school is over ill be DIY a few stompboxs i could never afford Ben
  3. Yeh thanks brian, i just put a couple layers of white on and then a clear, its up in the finished guitar section! Ben
  4. The top knob is ruby amp Gain, then it goes vol, tone tone, then the ruby amp volume. the ruby amp can be used as in built overdrive, drives a cabinent or speaker, or headphones, which means u can plug headphones straight into the guitar and have clean and overdrive sounds Ben
  5. Sounds quite nice. I think anyhow. I play through a marshall mg30, id put up sound samples but dont have a good mic and havnt got time. Ben
  6. Ok everyone this is a school project due on monday. It has the extra knobs and stuff for a 'Ruby Amp' that is built into it. I bought a basic alder body and routed it out alot to fit in a circuit board and a battery. The back cavity piece is held in place by magnets and is flush with the body. I finished the guitar myself with acrylic spray cans.. cost about AU$30 worth of paint. Umm. I use a strait lead in the pic but its made for a L shaped lead as u can see. The neck was bought too. I guess u are saying i bought the pieces and boleted it together but i tell you there was ALOT more work in it than that. Oh and i Also made the pickguard myself, that took like 4 different router jigs. Here it is: http://donk3y.topcities.com/amped.htm Check it out, and tell me what u think! Ben edit: its actually the 'little gem' from runoffgroove not the ruby amp tho they are similar, the ruby amp is 2watt where as my little gem is 0.5.
  7. Hey all.. Ok, i hope this hasnt been asked before, i had a pretty good search and not much came up at all. SO here we go. I ordered my own blank plastic from ormsby guitars, i made my own pickguard, i was quite proud of it, made all the templates and all. I was drilling to make a whole bigger for a special pot i am putting in it an the drill bit must have been blunt or something because it gripped in and ripped a side off the plastic. i glued it back on with aroldite, and decided to ignore it, now just yesterday i was trying to remove a switch i put in and bam, i cracked it right down the centre. Now that really bugged me, i glued it back together with arodite extra clear as well. Now these splits look real ugly so i want to sand over and cover it up. pic is here: http://bsto.greatnow.com/hereitis.htm Now my question is can i finished my pickguard the same way i finished my guitar i.e., primier, black coats, clear coats? or will it just scratch off? my dad suggested to put a couple white coats over then a clear, that way if it does scratch it wont be as noticable, but he has no experience wat so ever in guitar building, just some outside thought. I was also thinging of putting an image underneath the clear if i was going to put clear on. Is that just a matter of printing it out, using some sprray adhesive to glue it in place, then putting my clear over the top?? Any comments would be greatly appreciated, it is a school project due next monday, i cant beleive this has broken now!! Ben

Guess wat ladies and gents the parts arrived today!!! bout bloody time.. i realsied i forgot to order a resistor but thats ok cause i had a 10k in my box misc parts. I put it all together, with few dramas cept a dry solder i think it is called, where it looked like it was soldered but signal still didnt get through. These little things sound pretty good and go fairly hard. But dont build one if you want metal distortion coming out of it or anything, more suited for say blues and hendrix sorta stuff. Be careful with the volume knob, anything past 5 and it sounds **** and your deaf at the same time. ANyhow, ang Qs feel free to ask, oh and theres pics of my dodgy soldering at http://bsto.tk. under the guestbook button. I'm quite happy just gotta install this sucker in my nearly finished strat and I am done with a few days to spare. Ben
  10. HAha, funny sucker psw. u sound like a city sorta person who may have read a few too many TIME magazines...

  14. Welcome to Australia! I dont know much about voltage apart from it is 240v, though my brother got a mp3 player from switzerland (i think) and the prongs on the charger were like parallel and we just bent em sideways until it fitted, lol, it worked fine. I know this story is of no use to you but hey... welcome to australia. Ben

I rang them up yestday, and gave the poor guy on the other end of the line a serve, then he calmly said he'd have them out tomorrow (Friday). So it should be OK. Thanks so much for all your offers for help though, much appreciated. That list of suppliers is great. I have actually started painting the guitar today.. Ben
  16. H have heard that the Carvin kits are excellent, though quite expenise. They are worth checkin out. Also with most kits that are cheap you usually get dodgy pickups that you will want to replace right away. SO think about that cost too. Ben

www.dse.com.au is the aussie dick smith, not sure if the part numbers are the same in other countries, they should be. Theres a couple other things you probably want to get. - some sort of enclosure to put it all in. - OP amp socket i think they are called, havnt got time to look it up for you. thats all i can think of now. Ben
  19. I am condering doing that too with automotive paint, painting my tuning knobs black. Id reckon you'd need primor, then a couple coats. I think it would work, try 1st on a similar material. Ben
