    Crazy train

Crazy train is the song that took me from playing guitar to being a Guitarist. Tapping runs are a pretty good way of the learning the technique if you dont already know how, and the rest of the solo is study in solo construction, this was no off the cuff solo. It was preplanned and fits the songs perfectly. My favorite song ever (revelation mother earth has a better solo though IMHO)
  3. The biggest problem I think you'll find isn't how to strengthen yor pinky. The suggestions given are great (I am going to go home and try the over the fretboard one myself, so cheers to whoever posted that ) I think the real key is going to be not giving up on it easily. I know when i first started learning sweeps, I didnt get it right away and gave up. I think playing with your pinky i sthe same in a way. Take any improvement you may get from the excersises as a positive. Dont try and and quantify how much you s hould improve. It'll just cause you to get frustrated. Hope that helps. If not like I said there is a great wealth of info given on this thread lready anyway. :end ramble now!

  5. I have found that since playing a 7 string ( ive got the 7620 the precursor to the Korn model) ut has acyually improved my fretting hand posture. I used to "lean" over the ither strings and now my runs are alot cleaner!
  6. obviously this guy is talking out of his @$$. In my opinion you are taking a huge risk not having your rig mic'd anyway. regardless if your playing thru a peavey rage or Zakk Wylde's wall of doom.
  7. GOOD GOD! Dude the Buffalo Bill is downright scary its so good! But i gotta say the Gandolf rocks hard! But then again I love the LOTR stuff any way. Do you have any how to books out? If so I would like to get my hands on one . If not.......Then you should!
  8. Sorry for the all caps, I post while im at work and all my data entry has to be in all caps! I forget to unlock the caps lock. ANYWAY! I think everyone is right as to how it happens, but more importantly is how to keep it from happening. Ive been told the best way to keep it from cracking is to drop a drop of lemon oil in the holes. Do it when you change your strings just to form the habit ( not that changing your strings has any other thing to do with it)
  9. yeah my ds1 went through both my dad and me about a decades worth of play and the only thing ive ever had to do was change the battery. bang for the buck indeed!
  10. ANOTHER GOOD OPTION IS HOT RAILS LIKE YOU SEE IN JANICK GERS, DAVE MURRAY, AND ADRIAN SMITH FROM IRON MAIDEN. JUST A THOUGHT!
  11. IF YOU EBAY OR PAWN SHOP VERY MUCH FOR IBANEZ GUITARS THAT YOU COME ACROSS A TON OF THEM WITH THAT PROBLEM.
  12. Try out the beginning of the crazy train solo by randy rhoads. he had a different approach to tapping. most people tap in triplets or sextuplets he liked to do a double tap at the beginning, giving it a slighty different feel.
  13. Something most people forget to metion with "pinch harmonics" is that your right hand can make the difference. try moving it up closer to the neck and down towards the bridge. I slao tend to put a little bit of my thumb knuckle into it as well. and remember thatt if you rig is saturated in choruses and reverbs and you've got your mids scooped out, it chokes the harmoinc. it doesnt5 make it impossible but it sure makes it hard! oh and when you do get it down take a tip from Zakk and shake the note like its a dead cat!
  14. pantera - greatest hits gary hoey and ozzy no rest for the wicked
  15. If any one can help me find a neck for a Lotus Les Paul, 4 bolt, Id be appreciative. It can be one with a blank paddle headstock I can do the woodwork id just rather not buy a whole Lotus for the neck alone. I am going to be doing a natural/red bullseye on this lotus body I have and just need a neck to round out the project.
  16. cool im going to give it a try! thanx for the advice. BTW I am also working on converting an RG 560 to a Jem with a Two Tone Swirl. as Well as refinning a les paul copy to a bullseye ( i know two pretty cliche things to do but you gotta start somewhere). When I get down with those ill post some pics and hopefully you guys can critique!
  17. How much slack should i put on the strings before adjusting the back? sorry i know these are all newbie questions!
  18. Thanks for the respone. What i mean by haywire is that everytime i get any of the six strings in tune the seventh one is always do far flat that when i tune it up it throws all the others out of tune as well. I have done any adjusting to the claw in the back but yeah i have the fine turners at "half thread" and the locking nut is popped. and i even tried tuning out form the middle but to no avail thus far. Does that give you any clearer of a picture. I hope so cuz i dont want to pay for a set up when i should be able to do it myself!
  19. I recently bought a 1999 ibanez 7 string ( i believe its a 7620 but the sticker wasnt on the back). In any rate the original owner had monkeyed with the trem and had it tuned down like a step and a half. I triad to get it back to pitch but i could only get six of the seven strings to pitch before everything went haywire. I looked in the tutorials for help but couldnt find any help. if anyone could help me out youd be saving me the cost of a setup.
