  1. no prob at all. It'll probably be cool with the locking nut.
  2. yes, it's a warmoth bolt on. Carbon fiber sounds good. Or ebony?
  3. i duuno. I was thinking of a slab the size of a regualar fretboard, but i am now thinking of half the fret board wood, the other half metal. Thats why i chose bubinga, to balance the guitar. And since it is meant to be a blues guitar, and it's quite normal for a blues player to sit while playing (see BB King) the weight thang aint bad, y' know?
  4. I have been thinking of all these things. Stainless Steel was the first one to come to mind, possibly some other metal, i haven't done reasearch yet. 1) I don't see any reason wy the intonation would suck, it would be exactly the same as a regular fretless, perfect. 2) Although it won't sound fully fretted, it wont sound as dampened or as woody as a regualr fretless. 3) I want a fretless for bluesy-style playing, some thing i can slide around real fast on. 4) I haven't figured out how to attach the fingerboard to the neck yet. I was originally thinking glue, but it is now apparent I will need to possible bolt from the back, or have a 1st fret which will act as a zero fret where 2 bolts will be between it and the nut. And where the 22nd fret would go, recessed bolts, which are level with the fret board. I would never go to the 22nd fret anyways... I could have the metal i use heat-shrunk or whatever so that it stays a common size. Also, the temp of my room does not change much, and that would be it's permanent position.
  5. In no way am i experienced... I'm on my first project right now... but this Steel-Paul as it wll be refered to as from now on, will be pretty easy. It'll be a wormoth body, and i need to find someone who sells necks minus the fret board, and then i will but some stainless steel, cut it to size, polish it, and the rest is basic.
  6. Specs: Bubinga Les Paul type body AAAAA quilted maple top. Blue trans finish. NO binding bolt-on neck (i hate neck-throughs and such) bluesy PUPS heres the killer: some highly figured wood for neck, haven't decided yet. and instead of a wooden fretboard, a stainless steel fretboard, with no frets!! Yes, it will be a fretless which doesn't sound too woody, and every note sounds like it's fretted. BUH-YAH!! I'll probably start building this next year, either in January 04 or the summer of 04.
  7. lex won... two teles in a row, eh? I'll enter mine in a week or so for what it's worth.......
  8. awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww but with tung oil you can't screw up!! If you screw up on THAT wil a cc, it would suck!
  9. Burls (Burrs) Burls are those growths usually seen on the sides of a tree trunk which they are for want of a better comparison a tree tumour. The grain although exhibiting the basic characteristics of the tree has been scrambled into a blistered bird's-eye figure. This burl figure will also vary in colour being several shades darker than the uninfected part of the tree. Burls are usually flat sliced or sawn and depending on the species can be as large as 4 feet by 8 feet. Stump wood or Butts After the main veneer bearing lumber has been removed, the tree stump is pulled, trimmed and squared. The squared block is then flat sliced. The veneer figure displayed is a wild mixture of heart and sapwood, second only to a burl. Bird's-eye The most common veneer where this figure is present is sugar maple. It is caused by an infection which affects the current growth ring and can be likened to a skin disorder. A mature tree may be infected early or late in its life and as such the figure is best revealed by roll cutting the log until the figure disappears. A guitar out of stump wood would look grooooooooooovy!!
  10. so flame is achieved by cutting differently, and they don't know how quilts are made.... by grandma's of course!!
  11. Quilted and Blistered This has the effect of scales sometimes up to 3 inches around which connect to each other. Often only a small area of the veneer will be quilted while others will have the entire surface. Like many other figures there is no definite conclusion as to their formation however they are highly prized and can multiply the value of the conventional figure by many times. Among the most common species to exhibit this figure are maple and mahogany which is called 'pomelle' when quilting occurs. Flame, Crotch or Branch wood As the name implies this figure is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch, the figure when cut is referred to as flame (i.e.: flame mahogany or flame walnut).
  12. for what it's worth: NIIIIIIIIIIIIIICe wood. I vote: Tung Oil.
  13. soooo no one really knows? It's just a big secret?
  14. if it has a pickguard, take it off, else take off the rear route cover. Take a peep at the inside wires, seems intimidating, huh? now, look for any wires that aren't connected to anything. Once you've found one, look for a drop of sodder that looks like a wire feel off of it. No sodder the wire to this place. Continue these steps until done. If there is more than one, connect each wire to the closest sodder hole. Thats about it. If this doesn't work, post here again.
  15. if it is a teisco del rey go to teiscotwangers.com, and look it up. Then try ebay for the vorrect PUPs, normal wiring and pots willwork.
  16. niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice body... gots potential. It looks like A teisco to me. A teisco Del-Rey, am i right? It's either that, silvertone, or harmony.
  17. I got it in the mail yesterday. I tested it on a scrap piece of wood, and MAN DOES IT LOOK NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!! I still have some left on my thumb, and it even looks good there. Now that I've thought about it, their shipping was pretty timely considering, it was only a week and a half, and that includes thanksgiving. So i'm happy, and I know i will definately order from them again. OHHHHHHHH yeah, UPDATE: Final finishing will comense tonight. I will have pics up sometime next week.
  18. I'd say go for it. it looks good. But if you're not good with aerosols buy some clearcoat aerosol from home depot for like 5 bucks, and practice your spraying on spare wood.
  19. ok, update, they have the money, it rang through. So, once again, if it isn't here by the end of the week they will be getting a phone call.
  20. I used my moms credit card to order (i'm only 15), with permisiion btw, so i'm thinking maybe she accidentally entered the wrong PIN number? or maybe I gave them an incorrect e-mail address? I still have the order number, so if i don't get it by the end of the week they're getting an e-mail.
  21. ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh man, i was gonna enter my Teisco hollowbody I'm restoring, maybe I'll hold off until January's vote? I think it could have won, but i made a small error in sanding today, which will make it look imperfect, and not good enough to win against your guys' guitars. You know, next month is my birthday, the 17, so maybe as a really nice birthday gift you guys could hold off until January? or everyone could vote for me? PLEASE?!?! I really want that downloads section....
