  1. Thanks all! I'm officially OLD! I passed the big 40 and am now getting crispy..... No wait, I still ACT like a kid so I guess I'm not THAT old
  2. Yes. Vintage collectors like a nice unscathed piece of wood but scratches and wear and tear are acceptable....refinish is not and devalues the piece, usually a lot. I think the 250 was more than a generous offer. From what I've seen of these they get around $250 USD over here which is a lot less than your pounds or Euros or whatever you guys use to buy stuff today (plus I don't have one of those cool looking "L" shaped thingy's on my computer )
  3. I guess it does depend on the room. My house has all oak trim and doors so the oak blocks fit right in. You'll like the hangers as they really open up the room once your guitars are off the floor.
  4. I use String Swings which are basically like the shorties you listed but with a wooden block hanger. The wood is more pleasing IMO. They run about $10-12 (USD) locally which is probably close to the price on there.
  5. I agree. The first Slammer's I saw were pretty pathetic. The one's I've had in the last year are as good as any Korean made guitar out there. IMO the Korean guitars are going to be the next 70-80's Japanese guitars so if you guys have a decent model or a fairly rare one hang on to it (you listening Curtis ). It will probably be worth a lot of money in 10-15 years. With all of the building going to China now the Korean models are becoming less common. It's typical economics.....70's moved produciton to Japan; poor quality at first but dirt cheap labor; labor went up as quality went up so the move was made to Korea; labor went up as quality went up (IMO far above what the Japanese quality ever was) so the move is to China, quality is poor to excellent out of China depending on the factory (there are hundreds if not thousands of guitar factories there so you're spinning the wheel hoping for a good one); next move will be to ???? BTW Fender and Epiphone own or control their Chinese factories (I don't think anyone but a Chinese can actually own a factory there but I may be wrong) so you should see decent quality from both of their Chinese lines. I don't know about the other major players. Maybe someone can fill us in.....Kevan or Brian? Nice guitar Curtis, I sold several of those this year and they were IMO some of the nicest in the Slammer line.
  6. OK, I will retract that after trying out a new pedal yesterday.....I've had a new electro-harmonix Bass-Balls sitting here for several months that I said I would try before I listed it. Well, I finally tried it yesterday and it has to stay! I played some Black Sabbath (NIB) on it right off and it was perfect for it! It has that ripped speaker sound with a vowel overtone that really nails the 70's rock sound.
  7. I didn't know that. I toured a college with my niece a few weeks back and in one of the music rooms they had 20 keyboards and a computer on each one that wrote the score (not tabbed) as you played it. The tour guide said it was pretty common.....I must really be out of touch!! I didn't get the name of the software they were using but I want it now
  8. I'd make Jeremy an offer on it but I have been going crazy buying stuff lately....2 oboes, 2 cellos, a set of 12 blues harps, a bagpipe chanter, a clarinet, a flute, 10 spruce tops, etc, etc....plus my normal 150 or so guitars and basses for resale every month. Yikes!
  9. Good catch Erik....I missed the mini's The guitar is actually a Les Paul Deluxe. The Pro Deluxe has crown inlays on an ebony board and P-90's. The Deluxe had the mini's and the trapezoid inlays. I caught the inlays when I looked at it but missed the pickups. It has the wrong truss rod cover too but that is not too traumatic and with Gibson it may have just been the reason it was a second. I have seen them mark seconds for stranger reasons! The mini's actually make it worth quite a bit more than the P-90's so I'd say Jeremy's price is more than fair. My 2 cents........
  10. Stew you need to clean up your post and link the images instead of showing them per forum rules.
  11. I buy mine at the ocal True Value. They have a boxed selection of single screws in about 500 different sizes. It's nice because yo ucan buy 2 or 3 and not have to buy a pack of 50 to use 3.
  12. The guy at the store gave me 2 synthetics (and one real one) for free when I bought the oboe. He said most beginners use them because they are supposedly easier to blow but at the cost of sound and tone. I figured that was OK so I could get used to playing and then worry about sound. So much for that logic!! They sound like crap and they are harder to blow than a natural reed!! There are also synthetic reeds available for the bagpipe. I use a synthetic in my chanter. Since it doesn't go in your mouth they say it will last for years.....we'll see about that!
  13. So what you are saying Deja is that if you have never tried anything before don't try it???? Where would this forum be then?? Derek, I suggest going to the electronics forum in this section and doing a little reading first. Electronics Forum - Click Here Also try a google search on bass or guitar cabinet building. You'll find several great sites out there. LoveKraft is one of our local cabinet guru's and once you read the electronics section you'l find he has many tips and some great advice for 1) finding the info 2) first timers and 3) good safety info for working on cabs and amps. Good luck on your project and keep us updated.
  14. Ummmm......OUCH!!! I cured the oboe overpressure headaches today. I was using a soft synthetic reed and switched to a medium hard "real" reed.....what a difference in pressure (actually lower although it would seem it would be harder to blow) and sound. The sound is amazing and the low notes are crystal clear now. I even practiced for an hour before my embouchure (whatever!) gave out.
  15. I don't know if you're kidding or not but I can believe that one. I get the worst headaches when I play for more than 30 minutes.... I picked up a cello this week too. Another instrument I've always wnated to play and never got around to. My upright bass has been sitting in the corner for quite a while getting lonely so it may have to find a new home soon......
  16. Yep, those were the first things I noticed. When I was researching I could only find info that pointed to this being a very good and old instrument. After talking to the local shop they said the same thing and that's why they are interested in it. If it plays good after a tune up it may be worth a lot more than the few bucks I put into it. If you (or anyone) has info let me know.
  17. Well, this is as bad as guitars! The wife already wants to play duets so I picked up another oboe. I went with this one because my research said it was old, very good and fairly hard to find. Lemaire Oboe I called the shop today and talked to the oboe guru and she wants me to bring it in ASAP.......I think I found a jem on eBay for once I hope it's in decent shape....."average condition" could mean anything but the pics look like it's in fairly good shape and the guy said it plays. Here's hoping for a good investment!
  18. Yep, more reading........... Euro Spruce See Bottom of Page There's lots more but everyone seems to agree it is picea abies and it is a good wood for tops.
  19. I dug up a little more info on the carpathian/european spruce. It is a hybrid of Sitka and Engelmann spruce that was planted in Europe and is managed and harvested for tonewood and other uses.
  20. Maybe it's just me but I smell some serious sarcasm in feylye's title..... Not my style at all. It reminds me of a car fin from the 50's......maybe that's the look he was after
  21. Before you guys jump at Romano's link in his sig he is from Project Guitar Italy as are the others here. The link is PG Italy. Go check it out!! Good to have you here at Project Guitar USA!!
  22. I guess that's the first time the "edit" feature was truly missed!! I fixed it up for you. Please use links for pics and keep the pics 600x600 max that you post. I see Perry already cleaned that up for you. Back on topic....Nice Bass!
  23. Cool site Jamie! I found this one last night (he's in the States): HotPipes I bought the practice chanter outfit #1 with the Green Book. I guess I won't be waiting to learn 'pipes I found this guy on eBay and he has a "nice" write up on poor quality 'pipes. The same write up is on his site if you poke around a bit. I'll bookmark your site also and in 6 months to a year when I'm ready for a set I'll contact them and see what they can do.
  24. Did Tony J Malmsteen's pics load for anyone???? I reloaded the page 5 times and never saw a pic in his post
  25. Thanks for that info Perry. I figured it had to be a good warranty but I could not find it on the Martin site. All it says there is basically "you have a warranty and read the card that came with the guitar to see what it is". I think you have your answer right there Elton....take it in (or have your friend take it in) and get it taken care of at the Martin dealer.
