  1. i dont mean to be rude or anything but ive seen two of your topics so far. the first was "how do i cut out a body without a saw" and now how to i build an inlay. i suggest investing 20 or 30 bucks in a guitar building book.
  2. ok well none-the less, installign from the heel sounds easier. so if i do do that, i dont have to provide any sort of cover right? id just rout the channel, cut out the neck, drill a hole the size of the adjuster, and boom? am i missing something?
  3. ok thanks for all the replys. now, if i do want to install it with the adjustment at the heel, do i have to fit it with any kind of "cover" on the end, or just install the neck into the neck pocket as normal?
  4. ok so i can install from the headstock. now if i go 3/4 in past the nut, wont this entire channel be sawed off when i saw the headstock to 1/4in lower?
  5. what types of wood, other than adler and ashare beautiful woods sufficient for guitar building?
  6. yeh use some fingertraining exercises. i dont have time to tab any out right now. but basically take your basic pentatonic blues scale, and start playing it up and down, over and over again. then, gradually speed it up untill you can plaay it VERY fast. there are more, just do some reaserch.
  7. ok then, i had a hunch something was wrong. so where would i make the access cavity? at the neck-body joint? i would just have to make the truss rod cavity wide enough to fit the adjustment nut at the heel of the slot correct?
  8. ok i ran into a probem. luckily this is only my practice neck but still id like to correct it. i routed the truss rod pocket. i am using a fender hot rod with a fender style adjust ment nut as shown below: now, when i routed my truss rod pocket on my practice neck (made of 3/4" plywood), everything fit except this adjustment nut: now, does the nut screw off, or how do i fit it in, when i drill the access hole on the peghead, how do i get it through. this is my first guitar so ivenever done this before. please help. here are some more pictures, just for reference.
  9. i might look into this. this is my first ever guitar though and i wanted to make sure i had wood sufficient for guitar building.
  10. ha, yeh its my first guitar and i definately would have gotten adler, which is 50, but it was out of stock and well... im inpatient, i wanted to get started.
  11. thanks for the kind words guys. lol the wood is nothing special, just an ash body blank fron stewmac. i just finished routing a hot rod channel on a "practice" neck made of 3/4" plywood. ill have pictures soon. along with those pictures ill have a question about fitting the hotrod, but thats in a few minute4s. boy am i glad i made a practice neck, i really learned alot
  12. 60 bucks! wow, for a guitar liek that thats awesome.
  13. thanks guys. all that was done in a day, but like i said, it still needs some more sanding,.
  14. sorry to tripple post, but in the picture below, i drew a straight truss rod channel down the center of my neck, 7/32's of an inch wide, as the instructions suggest. if i route that out, to 7/16ths deep, and fit the truss rod in will that suffice? EDIT: itd help if i posted the picture:
  15. yeh that was the problem, they are fixed now
  16. well thats odd that work on my screen... hold on ill see what i can do
  17. i have a belt sander itt works really well. you can get a combination belt/disc sander for about 100 USD. anyways the belt sander is realy helpfull for sanding out all those annoying bumps that you cant get anyway else.
  18. hey people. im on my first guitar project and i thought id share some pictures with you and see if i can get any advice. only the body is done and im about to start the neck. i still have some final sanding and routing to do on the body, but heres what i have so far: Tracing out the tele body. the unsanded bandsawed body. you can see some of my template behind it. here you can see some of my workshop. that bandsaw is a 10" shopcraft. i like it, it works fine. hand sanding the body. i had already gone through it with a belt, drum, disc, and vibrating sander. just some last minute hand quality sanding. theres the practically finished body. i still have a little more sanding do do, as you can see some minor bumps in the picture. well there you have it, my first ever project. tell me what you think
  19. im sorry,i meant to post this in solid body guitar chat, a mod can move it if he/she wishes, i appologize.
  20. ok, after reading the making of astrat pictorial, i am SO much clearer on fitting a hot rod truss rod. i just have one question that i couldnt quite dig out of the pictorial. so, you route a slot for the struss rod all the way down the neck. when you fit the truss rod, you use silicone to hold it in place (like the instructions say that come with it). i have a fender type hot rod, with the fender adjustment. would i fit this adjustmen "screw" so that you adjust from the nut, the body or it doesnt matter. also, fitting a trust rod li ke this doesnt require a "skunk stripe" on the back of the neck right?. thanks in advance, and i know you answer a billion questions like this a day, im sorry.
  21. looks nice for a first project. im on my first project right now. its a tele, and its comming along ok. sanding is a btich thougth.
  22. i understand fully what you mean by this. however, most times your question cannot be answered through someone elses topic. As a noob, i konw that its hard to get a question answered if your not the one asking the question. for instance, "what is the best method for smoothing the body side" can most likely not get a good response out of a topic named "can i smooth the body side with a router?". of course, if theres a question like "how do i install a hot rod?", that can esasily be answered by look at guitarfrenzys fender strat pictorial. in no way am i trying to contradict your rules, they are excellent and i think that they will solve the clutter problem at PG, however i think that the search function isnt all its "cracked up"to be. i try to use it as much as possible, but sometimes it just doesnt work. sorry to offend anyoen.
  23. as stonescreed once said to me: "then you shouldnt be building guitars"
