  1. thats what i did on my spare parts strat, with the digital camera, photoshop and some model decal sheets, i used to do the RC thing too and it worked out ok, but mine looks kinda cheesy cause my printers dpi is not so good, its an old printer, but with these newere printers capable of 1600 dpi, bitchin and by the way i would be very careful as i split my decal in two, its very fragile, and had to gingerly match em up on the wood
  2. dude i hear ya, de stratifying a strat is like a #2 unwritten rule right after having a squier as a #1 rule, my strat screams like a scalded dog, but then its a spare parts beast anyways, those rio grande pickups set me back a bit, and dropping in that black ice capacitor and that 1 meg pot, bitchin, this thing screams, i got my eye one this cool varitone kit too from Torres Engineering that cuts the mid out completely and makes the guitar sound more acoustic with out having to add the piezo pickups and 9 v pre amp etc.... so I would still say the Strat gets my vote
  3. so sorry scott, i really should have gotten a bass amp along time ago and i was looking forward to actually having one, oh well, i was trying to help ya out, maybe i still can, do you have any small bass amps comparable to what i was looking for, lemme know ok thanks jeremy
  4. ok, about a month ago i had bid and won an ebay auction for a stratish body and a nice maple gibsonish pegheaded neck with the intent of trying to learn how to finish and complete a raw wood and neck, but today I learned of a Duo Sonic that is probably a 63 or 64 that I got to have, I am a small person and the 3/4 size has always been more comfortable to me, I just gotta have it, he said he would take 200, its in bad ass shape, OHSC, and I bet a dollar and a half that if I took the neck off it would be stamped around 63 or 64, so Im going to sell some of the parts I have of mine. I have that body and neck that go together, its written in pencil, Phoneix Gtr Company, with a date of 95, the neck has nothing written on it, but the neck pocket and the heel of the neck is a perfect match, its a strat like body, rear routed, has to humbucker routes, its a hardtail too, no trem routing, but you guys are all ingenious, could easily i think be routed for a floyd or a standard stratish trem, with a nice maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, a nice piece of it too in my opinion, and ivoriod bound, and a close gibson shaped peghead, just a tiny cut to add the bookmatch and it would be just like a gibson, the neck has never been drilled, so it could be utilized for any body you wanted, it seems to be a fender heel, not sure, but its close to my wd neck by just holding it side by side and glancing at it, i would say this would be a nice project, the guy claimed it was an alder body, i dunno for sure, someone had drawn in pencil and ailens like theme on it, its not that great, i would assume just sand that off and be done with it, i can email pics if you like, lemme know if anyones interested, i would rather sell to one of you guys first if interested instead of ebaying it, but if no one wants it, then ill have to ebay it, he told me he knows i want that duo sonic bad, so he will hang on to it untill i let him know yes or no, but i want it, its an old man, its been his guitar for all these years, one owner, bad ass shape, cased most of its life, he claims to be the second owner, its like damnit why do i always find good deals when i dont have any extra money laying around, grrr, well just lemme know, im posting the pics off the original auction, i can also take more pics if needed i also have the pickups i intended to use with this, its an jackson j 80 bridge position and an ibanez rg550 neck position (sorry for the confusion rich i fixed the wordage now so sorry) wich i wont need if i sell this body and neck, and can add those too if needed or i can hang on to them and a few other odds and ends i was gonna use with this project, but a 63 duo sonic is very desirable to me so the projects gotta go thanks in advance jeremy pic 1 pic 2 pic 3 pic 4 pic 5 pic 6
  5. so are they really good instruments, i didnt want to bid on it, i just thought it looked pretty, it actually was an inspiration for an ideal that popped in my head, i got the paper and pencil out and are working on an ideal of something, maybe some day ill stop playing around and actually get the right tools and attempt something like that, not the body part of it but inlaying the neck, i have a precision bass that is kinda blah and could use a refret anyways and i have an inlay idea in mind
  6. took the strings off and worked on the truss rod, restrung it and played with some different thicknessed shims, it worked out good, i have a little better action, its not that much higher, the hump is just slight and the fret buzz is practically gone, thanks for your suggestions jeremy
  7. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...1&category=4713 very pretty bass, for the price i dont know how they do it, that has to be time consuming, for that price, unless its just a really cheaply made bass but it looks pretty, i guess its probably a thin laminate, i still think for the price its going for someones getting a beautiful instrument jeremy
  8. ummm ahhh ohhhh ehhhh hmmmm i dunno what to say, one i cant belive someone would actually try and sell a freak of nature carrot and two i cant belive someone would seriously pay that much for a carrot like that, i cant belive that auction is real, i cant belive how much its currently at, that has to be a joke, or something, anyways like tsl said, alex where the hell did u stumble across that one?????!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. i just utilized a heavy guage guitar pick on my strat, i cut it in half and the the straight edged goes to the wall of the neck pocket and the pointed edge towards the nut, its probably not the bestest way to do it but it was cheap, we all probably have picks laying about everywhere, at least i do so i had it handy, and it worked for me, i guess either i got lucky or its an acceptable way, anyways a fyi for you to try if u want, note i cut my own nut and setup the guitar with very light strings, and have the trem blocked so its more like a hardtail, i have no ideal if being a bass would work like that, i would assume so since it would be a hardtail, you might need two picks being a bigger neck pocket, good luck
  10. its playable, and i just will have to wait and see, i live in san antonio tx wich the humidity can be high, the other day it was 80 degrees and now its like 50 something again, south central tx has the most crazy weather in the winter, shorts one day and jackets the next, and in the summer its just plain hot hot hot, so its probably like u said, winter vs summer, ill just play it by ear and try turning the rod little bits at a time and see what i can come up with, thanks for all the advice and help jeremy
  11. be careful with ebay, they will say oh yea, sure is it says floyd rose, or what ever else your asking and then when u get it, wrong its a licsened by floyd rose or whatever else, just be careful with ebay, especially when it comes to something you know has later on been mass copied by liscening
  12. awww good ol toothpicks, if you have any chopsticks from the chinese resturant they work wonders too, but u might have to drill the holes slighty, it depends, also works for plugging up neck hole reloactions and beats having to buy dowels specifically for that purpose
  13. I have heard of people using tung oil, aka alex's mockingbird and the explorer featured on the site currently, so whats the advantages/disadvantages to tung oil, i guess i need a little more education on it. thanks in advance jeremy
  14. hmm, interesting ideal kevan, i guess im kinda the ol school way of thinking, if u find a piece, just do the right thing in the first place and contact the right person, should have to lynch mob em or anything
  15. kirk u missed the point, people were selling parts of the crashed shuttle, aka the debris that was found on the ground afterwards, someone had picked some of it up and was already claiming it was for sale by auction, thats what pissed me off dude. i am all for selling legit memoerbilla, like a mission patch or a doll or something, i think that would be great if they came up with a charitable bear or something to help the familes out or to help fund the research or recovery operation, but selling charred bits of a crashed space shuttle is just plain wrong
  16. made in florida swirlcaster, i like it!!! "bitchin"
  17. its been a slow gradual thing, i had shimmed up the saddle with a piece of popsicle stick that i cut for it and that helps keep it from buzzing, but the action is kinda high now, its still playable, just i wanted to know if i could reverse the hump somehow, would turning the truss rod help or not? thanks for all the advice jeremy
  18. cool. it just resembled more of an ibanezish guitar to me than a typical fender, hell its probably made in that same place the ibanez guitars are made, i have heard this long word, fugi gen kai or something that supposedly ibanez and fender guitars are made side by side or something, i have been trying to read up on the fender japan story as i have seen some beautiful drop dead guitars that say crafted in japan and i was blown away at the quality, far better than some of the ones i have had that say made in the USA, so thats why i was on ebay just checking out what they go for in that market, thanks for your info you 2
  19. yea i gotta lowball this one, and its a learning experience with spray paint, im not that talented at it, i have the other project body and neck i got on ebay, that one im going to take my time, get the right materials and do it right, that neck is too beautiful to do anything less than perfect
  20. ok, i have finally sanded down that plywood body of mine, im going to attemp a cheap sunburst, i have plenty of sand paper, the best grit i have is 1000, i am thinking of using the deft spray on sanding sealer from lowes, the deft spray on clear laquer and just a black spray paint, should i sand any more than 1000 or should that be fine enough, im going to spray the sanding sealer first, then use a template i cut out of poster board and spray the black around the edge and then just spray clear all over. Im not going to try and do a tobacco or 3 tone, since the plywood body of mine has a beautiful maple veneer on the top and bottom, i just want to use the black to cover up the plywood striping on the bodies edge, maybe ill lightly lightly spray the maple interior to make a blackburst, any suggestions ideals, im going to utilize the tutorials and what reranch says, but for about 20 bucks from lowes, i think i can pull this off, ok, so like what kinda spray should i use for the black if im going to use the deft sanding sealer and deft clear laquer, also should i just spray the clear heavy or should i try and sand and spray and then sand and spray as the can claims one coat application, anyways, i need to lowball this attempt, but i think i can pull it off, thanks for your suggestions, ill try and take pics as i progress jeremy
  21. yea it has a truss rod that is adjusted at the heel, through the sound hole, in fact looking at the allen key spot you see the hump is at the joint of the neck and the body, right at the dovetail joint, ill try and get the pics to you asap, thanks jeremy
  22. dude, why not go for that hamer 5 neck jobber that rick nelsien of cheap trick plays, just kidding but I would suggest the stratish design just because im partial to the strat, good luck, I would think a monkey gripn would help with the weight issue here
  23. hmm, all you need to do is route a monkey grip and your good to go !!!
