  1. I think I'll prolly just figure out how to work it with a tele bridge...hard to do with my "hammer and chisel" routing technique
  2. Wait... crap. "The strings go through the bridge to anchor in the back of the body."
  3. its not a standard strat body... it looks like an bizarre lovechild between a BC Rich Warlock, a Beast and a Brownsville Bat that last link is what i need! thats a lot!
  4. oops! i forgot to leave out the problem in my post (stupid me)... i need one without the metal tele-style pickup cover thing. thanks though
  5. What kind of bridges could I use that do NOT involve routing the guitar? (I don't have a router) I'm building a guitar for my bro, who's just starting out, so it's really simple: laminate with a strat neck, one pickup, and a volume knob. It looks cool so he won't care I'm going to do the rest of the routing hammer n chisel style or with a really big drill bit. So anyway, my question is: what kind of bridge doesn't require routing of the guitar body itself? I'm looking for something similar to a "Vintage Tele" bridge but without the $80 pricetag thanks in advance
  6. i got awesome retro telephone-style guitar cable (i love it) new random cosmetic stuff for my strat (my rhythm guitarist and i did a complete rewire today and he put in new knobs and pickup covers) hendrix cd allman bros cd a snowskate and other stuff good haul this year and everyone should use telephone-style cable because it kicks butt (can i say @$$ here?)
  7. meshuggah has custom 8-string guitars with 2 extra low strings. they use a bass string for the lowest one. their highest string is a 9.
  8. i love that guitar which is why i hate to break it to you that the Leviathan is already a guitar made by HEX/Gothic Customs. it looks a bit like the bich if i remember correctly... i found their site at www.misfitscentral.com (your guitar is better!)
  9. so what am i going to need? about 6 board feet, 2" thick?
  10. thanks man i decided the same thing about the top last night while i was trying to draw up some kind of plan. what i want to do is just have a natural wood finish with woodburned designs, which shouldn't be too hard to do. i also like a guitar with some weight to it, and this is going to be a les paul shape, so should it be thicker? also, what is a b.f.? (you can tell i'm a newb lol) the preslotted fingerboard sounds like a good idea.
  11. Where would one get wood for a body, neck, and fretboard? I'm thinking a mahogany body, maple neck, and rosewood fretboard for my first project, if I ever get around to it. How much do these kinds of wood cost? What kind of wood could I use for a top? Where would I get it? How much would it cost?
  12. i take it you're using a non-flammable finish then? either that or you ARE crazy
  13. haha i love that kind of finish... i did that with my friend last week on his Duo-Sonic. And don't light that cigarrette while you're putting the clear coat on
  14. i'm in the same position as Sguitar... how much does that stuff cost?
  15. I started out practicing standing up, so I have my strap all the way out as long as it can go now because I'm used to it. (It's not that low though because it's an Explorer so it hangs higher.) I record sitting down but I can play my solos just as well live with the guitar that low, which is crotch-level, for lack of a better explanation. So its basically a matter of practice
  16. so true man... bark at the moon! I can play most of the crazy train solo... I improv the F# minor shred runs though.
  17. stupid crappy camera won't focus right to get the scratch. It doesn't look as bad as it did when it happened. Anyway... it's really just a large dent, and not as deep as I thought.
  18. you need to kill your rythym guitarist. i'm considering it... but to the people who commented after that he's in a band- he has no money he's a rhythm guitarist- he has no girlfriend (just kidding all you rhythm guitarists) pics coming soon also... i saw an ad in G1 for a scratch removal kit... does this work?
  19. do you need a special kind of pots for active pickups?
  20. Camera is out of batteries at the moment, but I can take pictures soon The finish is black gloss, and I would assume there are many coats of clear over that. The dent is not down to the wood, but still pretty deep, then there's a scratch in sort of a zigzag pattern, which isn't down to the wood either.
  21. I know exactly what you mean. When I started I had a crappy Silvertone starter model, which was good to learn on, but then I tried out a Les Paul at a guitar shop and I knew the difference immediately. The Samick guitar feels somewhat comparable to a real Explorer, the main difference being the pickups, which I mean to replace very soon, but the playing quality is great. On the topic of beginner guitars, what's your take on that Behringer package that I've been hearing about lately?
  22. At a show, my rhythm guitarist jumped off a piece of furniture and came down sort of next to me, and his guitar hit mine. The result was a nice, 1" long scratch in my guitar, and its pretty deep at one end. Anyway, is there a way to get the scratch out? I've been so careful with this guitar and I'm really down about this. I'm on limited funds, by the way. Do you need to see pics to be able to tell? I can take some and post them.
  23. I've only heard good things about those guitars, surprisingly. And Samick guitars are good and also inexpensive yet foreign made. Samick is a Korean company but some of their guitars are made in Indonesia as well. I have one of the Greg Bennett Explorers and it was well worth what I paid.
  24. Dude! thanks! My friend cut the wire on his Duo-Sonic that we were working on, too... thats pretty funny though, cause he told me all it did was cut feedback.
  25. i voted yes by the way... stare at the word "yes" (or any other word) for about 5 minutes, just looking at the shapes of the letters and stuff. When you finish, the word will appear completely strange looking, no?
