  1. i don't know about you but a custom instrument A Custom shop Carvin is worth every penny and will stand the test of time without having you live in the streets. A Custom Shop Carvin goes for a little under 2000 buckarros It looks fantastic and plays like nothing you've ever played and sounds fantastic. either that or a guitar from the Warmoth Custom shop licensed to Fender Hands down they make to most beautiful guitars made by man and you can get every aspect any way you want (anything) they cost a little under 2000 i like the Warmoths better myself
  2. What should i tune my guitar to for some good old blues to be played with a slide. Like from the movie "Crossroads" that kind of old fassion kickass slide blues.
  3. i am looking to hunt down materials for a project i hope to start soon what is a good thickness for the back and the sides. What is the maximum thickness the sides could have that could still be bent and not pose a challenge. Also what are your favorite woods to work with?
  4. how much would it cost to build a Fox side bender using bulbs?
  5. If your strapped for cash and need a heat gun (great for paint striping) i suggest you get one from Grizzly (www.grizzly.com) they were having a sale on a good heat gun for about $20. Also I know what your going through only i'm doing it on an acoustic (again). Just tear through it with coarse sandpaper. I honestly don't know much about paint stripper. I wish i had the power to look at paint and instantly vaporize it and command the fumes to do my bidding.
  6. i know people have done this on the forum before but not me. I know they aren't that complicated to build if you carefully plan it. Unless you are made of money or plan to use it alot i suggest you not buy one. A Fox style i think goes for $300 or $400.
  7. i am preparing for my next build and i don't know what i want to do but i defiantly want to do something. I was thinking of attempting to do something like a T-5 (a thinline acoustic with electric scale stings and pickups) or a purple double cutaway with f-holes and gold Floyd. Do you guys have any sweet ideas, finish or, design features to make a great guitar out of?
  8. the site has good prices but i know where to essentially find the same things but at the lowest prices you'll find anywhere tell me if you're still interested
  9. You could do a search, but I suspect your responces will be similar to the last thread you asked this question in-click I can't tell you what stripper to use. I noticed cautions about strippers doing damage to plastic binding(that could be a possible hazard). I would think about your rosette(sometimes they are not inlayed, you may see it is just painted on) and how the stripper may effect it. I would also be cautious about glue joints such as your bridge and such. Of course sanding definately has the hazard of sanding down some of the wood thickness, and given much of an acoustic is very thin you could do real damage. Sounds like you have some work ahead of you. Good luck with your project. Peace,Rich sorry i forgot about the thread but my computer runs too slow to do search to find it my guitar has no binding at all but the rosette is painted on. One way to approach this that i came up with was to seal or cover the areas sensitive to the stripper (bridge, rosette, glue joints, etc....) and while they're protected i could use the stripper the wider areas of the guitar. After that i could just sand the sensitive areas. I think it might work but i need some feedback on it.
  10. i have obtained another great sounding classical guitar with solid mahogany back, side, sound board, and neck the finish is too far gone to save so i'm takeing it off i know taking the finish off a guitar is never an easy job oversanding may affect the sound so i was wondering if the right paint stripper will work well. The wood is not stained and has a transparent brown satin coat would paint stripper work good?
  11. i was wondering what would happen if i were to put electric strings on an acoustic. what would sound like? how would it affect the bend"y"ness? would it in anyway mess up the guitar? i just don't want to try it in case it would mess up anything
  12. I'm in the market for an six string acoustic guitar and being a teenager i have little income. I was looking on the Carvin website and was listening to sound clips of their acoustic guitars. They seem to have the best tone for my price limit of about $400. Do you guys think it to be a good buy? I haven't seen them anywhere near me and because of that can't test play them. I know for a fact Carvin has very high standards and doesn't release anything unless it is flawless. heres some links guitars: http://www.carvin.com/products/group.php?CID=CBNE sound clips: C250 Colbat and C350 Colbat http://www.carvin.com/jamroom/
  13. i've never seen anything like it before i'm usually not into innovative designs like this but i too am looking for an acoustic it all sounds great and the pickup is a big plus i was just wondering with all that fancy tech how does it sound unplugged? i like playing without amps alot just by myself
  14. i recently found a source that could offer some brazilian rosewood but i need to know it's qualities before i take the plunge stuff like, how hard is it to work with (bend), it's tone, is it porous, and anything else i would need to know about it i know you Masters of the Art have worked with it before
  15. sorry just tuned in turned on i was looking at the pic of when you just sanded it and got that gorgeous sort of plain and blue reminded me of a leopard how could i achieve that for myself? how'd you do it learned master?
  16. LMI Link How difficult it is to bend depends on your equipment and experience. I don't find it difficult to bend(FWIW). Asking about tonal qualities is so subjective(I will leave that to the big companies that like to give you their nifty descriptions), but I believe you have to look at the wood in the context of the design you are building as well as the thickness and bracing you choose. Peace,Rich i'm probably the farthest on this forum from an acoustic making guitar expert (seeing as i've never built one) have you had success when completing a build with bubinga sets? is it in anyway more special then the other ones?
  17. i was looking through a catalog and came across a bubinga back and side set i was wondering if anybody could describe it's tonal qualities also, is it hard or easy to bend?
  18. Can you explain that for me, im having difficulty understanding exactly what you mean. you know finishes make *very* little differance when it comes to the tone of an eletric instrument, where pick up choice and amp choice will make more of a differance. The pickups are 2 (dos) humbuckers, 1 seymore d., and 1 unidentafied 1980's pickup off an ibanez RG and the amp is a marshall MG i was under the impression that the finish made the sound crisp"er"
  19. i am building a guitar out of WHITE pine (as an experiment) and i don't know what to finish it with i need a tight finish on it to give it at least a descent sound I don't have access to a spray gun and was wondering if tung oil would give it that tight finish i also wanted to stain it a walnut color and was wondering how to apply that and use tung oil over top of it or just mix it together a little help? thx
  20. sorry i didn't get back to you right away the neck is perfectly straight and fretboard is flat and mets the body at the 12th fret (it is an acoustic not a classical) as far as i can tell there is no distortion between the neck and the body and neck the bridge is fine and isn't lifting the action is about a half an inch off the neck at the end of the neck which leads me to belive that the neck angle is wrong also the neck is bolted on like an electric would be I will get back to you guys with pictures in the next day or too thanks so far
  21. the neck was bowed and straightened it's old and lost it's angle long ago from what i can tell it has a non-adjustable truss rod it also has a sort of metal saddle so I can't really file it down
  22. heyo i recently obtained an acoustic guitar with a bolt on neck First of all the neck had a massive bend in it which i fixed with an iron now the neck is perfectly straight, but when it was put on the guitar (bolted on) it turned out that it was mostly neck angle how would i go about fixing this?
  23. what's goin on guys? i've been thinking about my next project and I have decided to do a Gibson, or Epiphone Firebird Reverse that shape is da bomb but as always there's a catch i don't have or know anybody who has one to trace the ones on ebay are probably worth it but are too expensive ($55) does anybody have a temeplate, a full scale drawing, or traceing? (anything is a great help) if not would anybody know where to get one? also i need the headstock too thanks
  24. The color dosen't do the guitar justice it's a late 60's guild classical dark brown stain i was thinking a red mahagoney (don't know how to spell) stain instead but will the paint stripper moisten to wood too much? is there a special brand i need to use or will anyone just do?
  25. hey guys, confused again i need to strip the paint off a classical guitar i hate the color and all the marks i've been wondering about sanding it off but that would make the wood to thin and mess w/ the sound of the guitar the other method was stripping the paint chemically but would that make the wood too damp which method would be better for the guitar? also which brand of paint stripper, if any, would be good?
