  1. Because he is a very mediocre singer. I cannot deny that he was the incarnation of THE VH style, but his singing was more talking and making jokes and strange sounds instead of really singing. Sammy is one of the best singers technically. Which one you prefer is a matter of taste. I like both VH areas, but calling DLR a good singer is a joke in my opinion.... I have voted for Alex by the way....if you ever watch a VH live video you will see who tight this guy plays and what amazong technique he displays in his drum solos. True he doesn't play that spectacular on the albums because he plays whats good for the songs, but if he wants too he can play insane stuff....
  2. Thanks Wes! I will use Alder again in the future and rock maple necks, no matter what all these tone freaks write about expensive woods like limba, etc.
  3. Thanks again Jester! 12" to !6" compounf for a Jackson sounds VERY reasonable! I guess I'll simply go with a 15" radius throughout as I am no fan of compound radii.
  4. Nobody mentioned that putting the neck PU closer to the neck alters the tone as well. It makes a difference where you place the pickup in terms off sound. For example on a Strat the neck PU is placed under a harmonic node which makes it hard to get any overtones out of the neck PU but also gives a characteristic sound. If you are looking for the sound of a certain guitar place the PU at the same place in the sclae length.
  5. Yes 15" guitars are common and 12" to 16" compound too, but 16" throughout? It could very well be, I just wanted to know if you are sure because it is no common radius....
  6. Thank you VERY much for recording something just for my question. That PU sounds excellent. Exactly what I was looking for when I bought the ToneZone7....this is a way more ToneZone6-ish sound then what the ToneZone7 delivers. But I have installed the ToneZone7 in a guitar made from limba and a soft maple neck with bubinga laminates(my Infinity guitar which was GOTM in october) which may make it sound so different to my Alder Strats with ToneZone6 PU's. I simply want it to sound crunchier and brighter like your recording does. But I suspect the more mellow sound of that particular guitar is not the ToneZone7's fault. What wood did you use on that guitar? Thanks again for the recording, MK!
  7. Interesting Wes....I was already thinking about trying that PU....Did you record anything with it that you could post?
  8. Thanks but are you really sure? I never heard about any 6-string guitar with a 16" radius. That flat radii are common only for 7-string guitars....
  9. I have to warn you of one thing though: I used a ToneZone 7 for my 7-string because the ToneZone 6 is my favorite PU. I have to say that I like the 6-string version much more and it sounds quite different than the 7 string version. Maybe it's the guitar though....but I doubt it....
  10. Yep....the EMG is a certainly less noisy and a give a little more clarity. It's all a matter of personal taste. For me the EMG's sound to clean/sterile because of these properties and I prefer passive setups. But I know exactly what you are talking about....
  11. Hi! I have a Jackson Floyd Rose Tremolo here that is NOT made by Schaller. I want to use it for my next project, a Rhoads like V-guitar. What fingerboard radius do Jackson guitars have? I guess all Jackson Floyd guitars have the same fingerboard radius, otherwise they would have to make floyds with different radii to match the fingerboards. What fingerboard radius do they use? Thanks in advance, Marcel!
  12. If you like the Tonezone 7 then buy a common ToneZone for the bridge of your project. In my opinion the best 6-string bridge pu ever. Especially for Rock/Metal.
  13. Yes and I build it completely from scracht which makes it even better for me!
  14. I disagree. I used the stewmac ferrules on my Infinity and I think it looks perfect. Look at the pictures again....
  15. LOL....I have nothing against imports....just wanted to extend my knowledge of the jackson naming scheme....hehe
  16. Both psoters before me are right. Additionally you can search this forum as there have to be some old threads where jammy took some measurements of his Universe for me....
  17. Very cool design. I would build a prototype body out of styro or a cheap wood first though. Could be that the way the arm has to rest on that body during playing is very uncomfortable....
  18. Thanks guys! @Simo: What is a "PS" Rhoads? Never heard about that? Is it an import Rhoads?
  19. Hi! The topic says it all. I am building a Rhoads( or a King V) and have decided on most specs, but I wonder how thick the original Jackson V's are. The usual 45mm? Thanks in advance, Marcel Knapp!
  20. Do you want a neck blank? A rectangular block of wood? Or a complete neck?
  21. 1. The only one flaming here is YOU....I wrote a long text filled with arguments 2. Every music type can groove like hell if played tight 3. Reread your first post and realize that you wrote MUCH more wrong things about metal and music in general....
  22. @ChrisDee: You sír have no clue. I myself studied guitar at the german version of GIT. I had famous Metal teachers as well as Jazz teachers. I play in several Bands: A Jazz band, a metal band and a cover band. So I know and love both styles....Granted there is metal that is simple in terms of music theory, but there is much more to metal than kirk hammet solos. Metal, especially Progressive Metal has grown to one of the most complex music forms. Just listen to John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Van Halen, George Lynch....They are many metal guitarists that play at least as complex in terms of harmony/music theory than any famous jazz guitarist. And using jamiroquai as an example is especially wrong. While I like them, they definately make very simple music in comparison to many metal Bands like Dream Theater, the aforementioned guitar players and even death metal bands like Death, Meshugga, etc.... I have nothing against people preffering other musical styles, but I hate people discriminating other musical styles than their own without knowing what they are talking about.....Listen to some good metal or Jazz/Fusion bands and learn about some bands that make challenging/complex music and not easy-listening style like jamiroquai.....
  23. @goth find: Dude....before correcting me please at least read the topic of the thread. The topic is called "C#,f#,b,e,g#,c# Guitar". The whole "Something Wild" Album is recorded in that tuning....Additionally several other songs are played in C tuning which is even deeper....Doesn't that make "many" COB songs like i wrote?
