  1. Impressive craftmanship but to me the guitar looks still ugly. It's just not my taste at all.
  2. Thanks guys....following your advice I found a great top on ebay. Let's hope that I win the auction....
  3. I just wanted to recommend Tom.Thiel@Worldpath.net for buying neck blanks. His company has no final name yet, because it is a huge company supplying Fender & Gibson and alot of other big companies with neck woods and also supplies the boat building industry. He founded a new division inside his company with the aim to sell wood to private builders as well. This division has no name & website yet so I can only give you the email address. They were the only supplier able to sell me a flamed hardmaple neck-through neck blank and I never bought from such a proffesional company before. They answer in no time have a great service and an immense knowledge concerning guitar woods. They give you a detailed invoice containing nice info on your wood like the specific gravity of the piece you buy, etc. They have great prices and top notch quality and because of their huge stock they can supply even the most special neck blanks. So if you need a special neck blank or just a nice piece of figured maple definately check them out.
  4. Hi! If you know a supplier specialised on spalted maple please let me know. Thanks, MK!
  5. That is true, but you have more material boundaries the sound has to cross between the neck and the body.
  6. LOL.... That would be great....thanks in advance....
  7. Thank you very much Litchfield. I'll look for the woods you recommended. Concerning the bigger piece on ebay: Thats very funny I just saw that board about half an hour ago and thought that it looks great. Unfortunately it is not thick enough for a guitar body and not long enough for making a two-piece body. Perhaps I buy it anway and use it for a drop top on some guitar.
  8. Yes, but you won't find better furiture for that low prices anywhere else. And there are always people simply looking to buy the cheapest stuff in order to save money.
  9. Does anyone have expirience in using these threaded metal inserts for bolt-on necks? I like the concept of having not worry about loosing the contour of the "wooden thread" if you swap necks often, but I wonder if using these metal inserts has a negative influence on the sustain&tone of the guitar.
  10. Yes this is the person I odered my veneers from. She sells veneers outside of ebay as well if you write her a mail. I have not recieved my veneers yet, so I cannot comment on the quality of the wood.
  11. I found pictures of the Figured Makore Drak was talking about, but no place which sells that wood. Any ideas?
  12. I think krazyderek ist talking about THOUGE@aol.com. She sold really cool Bubinga and Walnut veneers on ebay, but she only sold packages of 50+ sheets which is way to much for building guitars. I contaced here and already ordered some very nice Bubinga and Walnut veneers in a lower quantity. Just contact her and she'll sell you great veneers. HTH, MK!
  13. Hey Wizard welcome to the forum....you seem to have lived everywhere.... As you know Augsburg is not far away from Munich. Munich is still a cool city. Actually I live in Tutzing at lake Starnberg if you know that. I wouldn't want to live somewhere else. For me its just perfect here. I am in the nature and directly at the lake and have a great view on the mountains. If I want to go into a city it's only 20Min to Munich with the train. I think I'll be in the USA in the next year though, because I want to attend GIT in LA.
  14. My main guitar is my beloved old Fender USA Strat. If I want to use the tremolo I dont use the string trees and I never had a problem that way. No popping of strings out of the nut and no buzzing. @Wes: If you use a locking nut why do you install locking tuners? They are more expensive and not neccessary if you have a locking nut anyway.
  15. Hey guys dont be so hard to Snork. Nothing but critique followed his attempt for a 3-piece neck tutorial. So I am the first one to say that I find your tutorial quite interesting and thanks for sharing.
  16. @wes: Okay that is a reason for using string trees on Floyd guitars. But what are the trees good for on a guitar with a usual nut?
  17. Dont take my statement for the best solution. I just figured out that it *should* be the correct way of doing it in a geometrical sense. If it is the best solution in reality I cannot confirm. I dont understand what string trees are for anyway. I dont use them on my Strat, because they create tuning problems with the Tremolo. I wonder why Fender installs them if the guitar works quite as well or even better if you dont use them.
  18. okay....if you use a nut with an angle then you're right. In this case it should be best to angle the peghead with the locking nut angle.
  19. Actually its not that simple. The peghead angle alone does not define if you need string trees or not. It also depends on the placement of the tuners. The farther away a tuning machine is from the nut, the bigger an angle you need. Simply draw a sideview of your peghead and the tuning machines and figure out how big an angle you need to make string tress obsolete.
  20. Thanks again....I hope Jim from Hoshino can sell me the blank! P.s.: Nice guitar Rick!
  21. I read alot of interview saying that the reason for EVH to change from Musicman to Peavey was that Musicman refused to set up the guitars exactly the way he wants it. So I guess if you walk into a store an pick up a Peavey Wolfgang then you should get something which is very close to what he uses.
  22. Yes Scott....thats the reason I have to rely on emails. Not only will it be pricey to call but it is also quite difficult because of the different time zones.
