  1. yeh thanks, i'll post up before i'll be buying parts to see if anyone can sell me stuff at a better price....... i'd much rather buy it from someone here than from warmoth, so yeah.... anyone else is a dealer on these forums that i should be aware of? thanks, Roman
  2. hey i'm 15 too........ dont worry you aint the only one. looks good, though i'm not too keen on explorers myself.... nicely planned, so yeh, good luck Roman
  3. hmm interesting..... i'm not particularly fond of EMG's however..... i do agree they have masses of low end and crunch but they are a little sterile for me, plus i am not prepared to try to mix actives and passives, i got enough to sort out as it is! lol at the moment i was thinking H-S-H, (all dimarzio) PAF-7 at neck, blaze-7 single mid, and either Evolution7, tonezone 7 or blaze7 custom at bridge...... other wood wise, i'm pretty much decided on a 5 piece maple/wenge neckthru, with alder wings, so which fingerboard would compliment that? also what about pickups i've sort of chosen? EMG dont make a 7 string single, SD's range of 7 string p-ups is less than impressive, so it pretty much has to be DiMarzio........
  4. wow looking great, i really dig the natural wood binding. any leaks to electronics setup? also, how thick will the body be, including the maple top? Roman
  5. now that i read into it for the 20th time, it does make a bit more sense... ignore my 1st post. yeh probbaly just need to tweak the truss rod and lower the bridge thingy......
  6. cool..... so i reckon i'm gonna use alder. thanks, Roman
  7. what?? the neck gets wider as you go higher, so does the spacing vetween the strings...... i have no idea where you've read this but this is done on ALL guitars AND classical instruments such as the cello, violin, etc Roman
  8. would you recommend it over maple for a 7 string body wings? i'm looking for a very bright and punchy tone, so even the low B has a punchy trebly sound
  9. do you think i should use alder for body? i just thought the properties of maple are what i'm looking for..... but does $700 sound reasonable? that does not include actual body wood.... you know its ridiculous, 3 dimarzios (2 H, 1 SC) cost $190 in US through a DiMarzio dealer and the same pickups through a UK DM dealer in UK cost £205 ????? (thats around $300). how???? i hate how everything costs so much in UK, so i'm thinking i'm gonna have to pay more for the wood too. its totally ridiculous, i have to have everything shipped from UK, and still, with shipping and taxes its cheaper than if i bought it over here..... Roman
  10. i love playing Paganini's 5th Caprice (aka Eugene's Trick Bag) v fun to play, esp the octave part where you play b3's like this on the high E e -0-22-19-0-10-8-0-20-16-0-8-5 (there's a note you play on the B too, but cant be asked to format it.......) its a great piece to play and a really good thing to show off to people and make other guitarists jealous Roman
  11. i came up to around $700 inc shipping.... (but i'll see if i can get a better price, esp from guys here on PG). its for a 7 string guitar (but on a few things i'm buying 2 or 3 sets so can be used for future work); capacitors, pots, shielding tape, wires, knobs, mounting rings, 7 string FR, jack, jack plate, screws of all sorts, 2 sets of strap locks, switch, tuners, 2 ebony fingerboards (pre slotted), truss rod, adjusting nut for truss rod, glues, side dot inlays, dimarzio pickups (H-S-H)........ and i came to about 700 with warmoth and some US based dimarzio dealer..... i hope this is me overestimating, what do you think? what should i be paying? and any PG members that are dealer that could give me some better prices? Roman
  12. what i do is give the guitar body a light slap/knock while not holding strings, and this will cause them vibrate, and voila, feedback. i saw slash do this, so picked it up from him Roman
  13. well sorry i may have been too harsh, but though i actually only own a pathetic 15 watt, i have played on enough boutique heads and cabs to consider myself a tone freak....... i played on the Mode 4 and i just found it a low quality mesa copy.... sorry i did sound like an ass, but i was quite looking forward to playing one, and it dissapointed me horribly... but sorry i suppose i cant say anything till i have my Deizel... but yeh, sorry Roman
  14. but is the case with everyone, or am I overspending on hardware / underspendin on wood? Roman
  15. yes yes, that is true, schaller's give a beefier tone..... i think their base is wider and sustain block is a bit bigger. but i prefer OFR's the tone is more elegant and cut-through, which suits my style better..... Roman
  16. Wes you got a Mode 4??? i thought so well of you..... too well, as it proved but hey, each to his own; but i absolutely loathe Marshall Mode 4. my rig is ok, but i do need to buy a better amp, but i've managed to get a decent sound from the pedals and because of constant whining to turn it down (its a 15 watt for god's sake) i wont be getting a better amp till i move out....... till then all my cash just goes on guitar building and modding i got a Washburn CP2003; my custom project guitar; these run into ORIGINAL Digitech whammy (ooh yes!) - modded crybaby - a distortion pedal taht was built in West siberia (i picked it up in Russia for $10 - its the best 10 bucks i ever spent! this thing owns any boss disto) - Boss DigitalDelay2 which runs into a 15 watt SS practice amp *hangs head in shame* Roman
  17. looks ok, but then i dont know who its made by..... if you can help it, buy a German made Floyd. germans make the best hardware.... also you're gonna pay like $30+ because its gold plated... but hey, if it goes with the look, then go for it...... but i still stand on my opinion that old OFR ARE the real deal. lets not forget it was the OFR's success that put Kahler, which had a better design tremolo, out of business because OFR is simply unbreakable and the most reliable bridge if looked after and installed correctly. Roman
  18. sounds good...... so this means wood will cost about 1/10 of the price of the hardware? weird.... Roman
  19. i only recomend schaller or OFR if you want top class, and ok Gotoh's ok. under no circumstances go anywhere near an Ibanez floyd, unless its the original Edge, which isnt bad...... but the new Ibanez FR.... just buy a OFR, even if its old..... the older, the better! 80's OFR are more stable than newer ones and are pretty much built like tanks. and they cost cheap, i got mine, 1986 OFR for just over $70 on ebay..... pretty much all trems are d-tuna compatible as pretty much all use the same saddle spacings and design Roman
  20. i'm trying to pre-plan a project, which will be my first full, hence need to know everything before i start........ ok, how much would the woods to build a neckthru (5 piece - maple/wenge/maple/wenge/maple) dimensions of which would need to be 1000mm x 70mm x 45mm and how much would maple body wings cost? i wont be looking for birdeye or quilted, i just want some decent wood with good tonal qualities....... thanks, Roman
  21. looks like a 1/2" maple top on a mahogany one piece body Roman
  22. i got a great idea...... you could place the knobs on the side of the guitar, you know the surface on which the input jack is mounted on LP's, etc? you could just do a tele control cavity size route, cover it with a plastic/metal plate on which you'd have the pots, with small knobs! i hope you get me...... it like the acoustic preamp on guitar, where controls are on top........ but you'd have to have a think where the best face to put them would be, i think just above the input jack as you could see it etc. arent i clever Roman
  23. hm a tone pedal could be easy to do too........ so imagine, no controls on guitar, but tone and volume pedals........ pretty cool? but i prefer the controls ON the guitar.... my effects rig is too big as it is!
