  1. Thought this was interesting. An online video rental for Luthier and other technical videos. http://technicalvideorental.com Is this a deal or a dud?
  2. The Ultimate CBG My Blog Post Here's the most extensive Cigar Box Guitar I've built to date. The CBG was built to be played mostly with a slide. Built around the players specs, it's a five string monster with a traditional truss rod and 24 3/4 scale. The owner is a huge Derek Trucks fan. Read a review of it by the owner at Guitar Tree Additional images: Full front Full Back Build: Body - Cedar Cigar Box Neck - Maple Fretboard - Rosewood Pickup - Fender tele Noiseless Tuners - Vintage Gibson Bridge - Rosewood Tailpeice - Rosewood
  3. theforgotten I would suggest looking to the internet for your vinyl needs. What you need to look for is a vinyl signage person not a printer. Unless you want to have something printed on it. That would be like the advertisements you see on bus' or those crazy advetising hummers. I get my logo cut out of vinyl to get a super crisp look. I get about 20 - 30 at a time. There was a guy selling vinyl kits for guitars. You might do a search to see what his deal is. http://www.stripeshop.com/ Good Luck
  4. Here's my latest creation. It started life like this this. Check out my Blog for more pictures. It was a fun build for a friend that wanted something off the wall.
  5. Wow! I just did the numbers and the 70ft of the Meduim/Meduim is not a bad deal. I've been guying from International Luthier And I like the wire they have. It works well. I just recently bought some wire from Grizzly The price is about the same as Stew Mac. I'll have to get to you on how well it works. I do have a Chuck Norris story. I was in the V.I.P. lounge of a local Dallas strip club with Dave Williams (from Drowing Pool) and Chuck was up there. I passed him going to bar and he just did his "I can kill you wink" at me. I ended up buying him a drink. He's a pretty cool guy.
  6. I will jump in on this. I'm building my first acoustic guitar. What I've done to date: I've cut the rosette into a sitka spruce top. Added the bracing to the top Strated building a side bender And started the neck I'll get those pics up shortly. I am also making the truss rod. Which is done in a pretty cool way. I usually build the tradtional truss rod and route a curve in the neck. This one will be more like hotrod trussrod in that I bend the rod in half and add brass cover that will create the compression. I'll post picks of it as well when I get it done. I will be keeping up with this project on my Blog The Sitka Spruce top with the Mahogany back and sides. http://www.hitoneguitars.com/uploaded_imag...1677-724147.jpg The back bracing. Still need some work. http://www.hitoneguitars.com/uploaded_imag...1673-793728.jpg Make shirt go bars. http://www.hitoneguitars.com/uploaded_imag...1662-718337.jpg The sides. They are not to size yet. http://www.hitoneguitars.com/uploaded_imag...1674-785889.jpg Rob HiTone
  7. This might be an easly question, but how does Myka cut his frets and not have them protrude from the end? It doesn't look like has binding on it.
  8. HiTone Classic solid body I've completed a new instrument. It's a smaller version of the HiTone Classic and a solid body. The reason I made it smaller was to fit in a regular size case. I made the body out of basswood and ran the strings through the body. This combination has an amazing tone. It's vibrates like a piano. You can hear the sound straight through the body. With the P-90's, this guitar is ready to rock. I also used the Grover open-back tuners. They really give the instrument that vintage and classic feel. 9. Not all Harmony's were cheap instruments. They got that rep. when they started selling @ Sears. Most guitar companies of the time bought bodies and other parts from Harmony. I believe Rickenbacker was one of them. They perfected much of the building techniques that we use today.
  10. Interesting instrument Nylon Chambered Mahogany body Solid Spruce Top Steel String Body - Silverleaf maple center with Poplar wings (?) 'AAA' grade Flame Maple top or Solid Spruce Top It looks like the sides and back a solid piece that is routed hollow. That's my best guess. I haven't seen one in person to inspect it, yet.
  11. I'm only half way through looking at these images and the question I'm thinking is: "Why tear down a great old guitar and not just build one from the ground up?" Seems that he did more work the way he did it.
  12. I've been thinking about making a hollowbody that the top and bottom join together like a violin or doublebass? If your wondering what I'm talking about take a look at this picture. See how the top overlaps the sides. Would there be any reason why I couldn't do that on a guitar? I know some might say that the binding adds strength, but what about the archtops without binding? Do they do that for the electric basses that look like violins? It seems to me that a bass or violin would have just as much pressure put on them as a guitar. If not more. Ever seem Jimbo (from the Reverend Horton Heat) stand on his? I'm just wondering I think it would add a cool feature to my next hollowbody archtop.
  13. The rocket 350 rocks my vote! As for the "Other Entrys" I had to skip voting for myself or Jehle's killer OWL and go with MATTs amazing violin. I feel like I watched that violin grow up from just a young timber.
  14. That's cool. The white guitar is from Charlie's Guitar Shop here in Dallas. http://www.charleysguitar.com/custom%20guitars.htm http://www.charleysguitar.com/images/Frien...Switzerland.jpg http://www.charleysguitar.com/images/Frien...rom%20Osaka.jpg

  16. This sounds like a blast, but I might have to pass on this one. I'm heading out of town for the weekend. Here's three I recently built. Check out the El Producto. El Producto Guitar-o Monte-Cris-Tar The Ras Tafari Guitari
  17. All Santa wants for Christmas... ...is a cigarbox ukulele. A Christmas gift for my father-in-law. It made the jolly o'l guy very happy. This Ukulele or the Tabacco-Uk as I call it is made from a vintage cedar cigar box. I crafted the neck from mahogany wood and the fret board is a beautiful Cocobolo wood. It's 13 inch scale and has a mother of pearl oval inlay. My favorite detail is the fact I got the sound hole cut and still kept the Cremo tobacco man. Here are some images of the build. 18. Idch, your right. To Verhoevenc's question about the bleed. I shot some clear over the mask before I shot the color. Once the color is on, I took an exacto knife and went around the mask. This prevents pulling the paint up. It's a pretty simple technique. Ideally I wanted to get the design cut out of vinyl and avoid hand cutting it. Here's the image gallery.
  19. Like my momma use to say, "you've got the patience of a saint"!

  21. Holy cow man! MATT! I went to check on your progress and saw the photo of the messed up finish. I almost cried. It looks like from your post on the 5th that your not letting it get you and you've figured out how to fix it. Can you give some detail to what happen?
  22. Thanks Tirapop. That picture of the gretsch is incredible. I still don't understand how that body is built, but those images sure help. I put up some more build picks Here. The guitar has a solid centerblock that I made out of basswood. Pretty much like the Martin Koch book. The center is shaped to the arch. The sides are bent in a mold and then glued to the block. Sorry, but I guess I dont have any images of the body and block together. The images mainly show how I did the masked design and also the binding. I used veneer for the binding. A technique I came up with after I kept breaking regular wood bindings. It came out great. You can't even see the layers of the wood. Which I though would have been cool if you could. It might be neat to do different kinds of wood to get a line effect. I also did a faux binding on the headstock. Check out the picks. Idch, I am working out a pickguard based on your suggestion. I'll shoot you a pict as soon as I get it worked up.
  23. Thanks for comments On the Case: The HD foam works really well. It stiffens up when you glue the material to it. I don't know why I didn't form fit it. I guess I thought doing with out it would be more straight forward. On the guitar: Yes it's one of two new classics I have built. I haven't completed them yet so I only have a few images. I'll link them below. I do have a pickguard made out of maple. I wanted to make it green to match the headstock, but the dye wasn't working with me. So I stil haven't decided if I'm going to use it. I'll take another look. Here's a mockup with the pickguard Here 's top view of the classic Here's a detail of the art on the back Here's a decent shot of the body Here a side view of the headstock
