  1. I hardly ever look at our community newspaper. I probably should!
  2. Damn... i wish i'd known about that.
  3. Grit Laskin didn't *come* to Toronto, he lives and works in Toronto. I used to live right around the corner from his workshop and i didn't even know he was there! Where did you see him speak?
  4. I doubt a scroll saw or a jig saw would do a very good job at cutting hard material that thick. Scroll saws are really intended for fine work with thin materials... on thick, hard wood, you'd probably snap a few blades.
  5. Wow... that's gorgeous! Are you going to do a burst around the edges at all? That might help disguise the mineral streak.
  6. That's interesting, because when i spoke to him a few weeks ago, he said they were still planning on releasing it. Maybe it didn't live up to his expectations.
  7. Since it's your luthier who's actually going to be doing the finish, why not let them do some finish tests with techniques they're familiar and comfortable with?
  8. Isn't that kind of like putting a Lexus badge on a Toyota?
  9. Don't forget the Tokai Talbo! And i think a saw might be a better tool for cutting aluminum than a router.
  10. As long as you're not the next Snork... whatever happened to him, anyway?
  11. Music Man StingRay basses sound amazing. Need i say more? One pickup, perfectly placed, is all you really need.
  12. Well, i just hope you got it for a ridiculously low price, considering it's a carcass from a $129 guitar with a broken, non-original neck and cheap, non-original electronics!
  13. Do you have a good straight-on shot of the body? From that first pic, it doesn't look (to my eye) like it has the usual late-'80s Kramer body shape and contours, but it's hard to tell from the angle and lighting.
  14. You know, if you phone Carvin instead of ordering online, they can do options on necks only. I got a Bolt neck with no face dots, but only through their phone ordering.
  15. Looks great, though the bottom/rear edge looks a lot more square than the Radius/JS shape. Was that intentional?
  16. Fairly detailed diagrams of the Fly bridge system works can be found in the manuals.
  17. Well, if you think wearing earplugs is not cool now, i'm sure you'll think wearing hearing aids when you're older is definitely not cool. Choose one or the other.
  18. Google it. According to Gilmer Wood, Benge is related to Bubinga.
  19. That's pretty much the only game in town, unless you go with a GraphTech GHOST setup, or some other piezo saddle solution from RMC or L.R. Baggs that can be split into hexaphonic synth-ready output.
  20. Because he's using an oiled finish instead of a glossy spray, he's going for a more "natural" feel and doesn't need the surface to be mirror-smooth with all the pores filled.
  21. And this is why i wear earplugs. I hope you did, too. But if your ears are ringing, i'm guessing not. I don't want to turn this into a preachy thread, but guys, PLEASE look after your hearing. If your ears are ringing, it means you've probably sustained hearing damage. And hearing damage is permanent and irreversible. Once it's gone, it's gone. If you want to keep enjoying music well into your later years, please protect your hearing when you're younger! Glad you enjoyed the show, though! I don't go to a lot of live shows any more (don't like crowds to much after nearly getting trampled twice at a Primus show), but i used to really love seeing bands play live.
  22. I seem to recall that fiber optics are NOT used for this kind of application because they can't be bent on sharp angles and still retain their light conductivity.
  23. http://www3.alembic.com/img/ws_wineburstL.jpg It looks to me like there are hex screws at either side of the bridge for height adjustment. I'd be surprised if the saddles weren't radiused to match the fretboard.
