thrashncrust
i cant find a diagram for my amp, which totally defeats the purpose? but i want distortion kinda like friedman sounding (cacophony years) or something with alot of gain... i hate using pedals... please help... i can take a pic of the insides of my amp, or ask for peavey for a diagram but i NEED MORE DISTORTION... and... is there a way to put in a tube preamp section in a SS amp? i doubt i could but i was wondering
Drak
You most likely need to sell your amp and buy one that does what you want an amp to do. Screwing with your amp will reduce it's resale value, and if you want to sell it to help fund a new amp, you're killing yourself trying to mod that one. truerussian558
you could install a permanent pedal inside the chasis and drill a few more holes for the controls up front? and then route the input jack to the distortion box, and then to the input of the amp. OR what drak said (much better idea) Edited September 21, 2004 by truerussian558

Search around for schematics for a "tube preamp" and then you can go from there...basically, mod the circuit so that it overdrives the preamp's sections a bit more...PM me if you have any questions or need help. I'll be glad to offer whatever knowledge I can...
lovekraft
I'm gonna have to weigh in with Drak and truerussian - buy a MetalZone or similar pedal, and save your money for a XXX/Mode4/Dual Rectifier/SLO - IMO modding that Peavey is like putting a tutu on a pig - it's different, but it ain't a ballerina. Asomodai
Hmm, even though you hate pedals,. there is a tube distortion pedal out there called an @akai shred o matic, it might sound lame, but is great for freidman like stuff. You could dury rig it into an amp possibly, though i would see no point.

KeithHowell
Have a look at Jack Orman's Minitubes preamp and MiniBooster. It uses fets and has a great sound. Muzique Keith
ansil
you can add a tube booster section for little money, but being so young and i don't know your electronics experience level. at 15 i had been rewiring amps for quite a few years as well as houses so i dont' know where you stand. however you could build the mctube into your amp asuming there is space. and its relatively tame as afar as the voltages go [it can still knock the piss out of you so you have to understand that tubes carry enough voltage to KILL YOU] that being said though take a couple of pics inside your amp and let me look at it and i will see if theres room to squeeze in something inthere. there are minitubes on ebay that will last quite longer than an average tube that you could do with a lower voltage to get less headroom which will give you more distoriton and a little closer to what you are looking for but i suggest you find a lot of info and DOWNLOAD AND PRINT IT OFF TO READ ABOUT TUBES before even thinking about doing it. i dont' want to discourage anyone from learning but as anyone who works with tubes [Myself and Lovekraft no offense to anyonelse but we tend to field those questions mostly ] and i know from talking to LK that he has been bitten too and it SUCKS. so anyway. take some pics email a linke and i will see what i could do. also check out the real mctube
