AlGeeEater
I know that there is a lot of VH guitars going around but ive been thinking about this one for a while and its all done. Have a look! Its Dupli-Color Dakota Yellow Base, then i masked off and sprayed Dupli-Color Gloss Black and then the Clear Lacquer from Dupli-Color. AlGeeEater
And does anybody know what wood this is? Hijacking my own thread...
Drak
I believe that is Sheziwite wood, (Ungulous Pholosos) only available from the Pacific Ogankolie Island chain, much like Koa is only found in the Hawaii Islands. Where the heck did you find a piece of Sheziwite? I've been trying to hunt some down for almost a year now, it's -very- hard to find. PS, your guitar really looks great! AlGeeEater
Hey thanks Drak, it means alot comming from you and all your beautiful guitars. I dont know were i found that wood. I bought the body and neck from my music store. The brand is called Spencer. Its a noname strat copy...i dunno. It was 160 bucks. BTW, whats so good about shizite or whatever it is wood? Edited November 2, 2004 by AlGeeEater
Drak
That's 'Sheziwite', not 'shizite'. Sheziwite is known to have an -ungodly- beautiful, light, resonance due to it's Pacific Rim origins. More (resonant) 'bounce to the ounce' you might say. Not all of it has the magic, but enough worth to jump whenever you see it. _______________________ You did a really great job on that paint, I normally don't like EVH jobs much, but I like your a lot, I mean that, it looks real nice. AlGeeEater
Oh, i have a spelling difficiancy. See i couldnt spell diffeciancy.lol I usually dont like EVH jobs either I did this one tho because i thought id be very cool lookin with the white pickgaurd and yellow stripes and such. Im suprised it turned out so well also do to the fact i have blushing in about every spray. I then sanded it flat and the clear just laid down perfectly. I will have to do hardly any sanding on saturday...which means it will be polished quicker!!! Thanks. Ill sell it to you also if u want the wood. Just strip off the paintjob!!! Drak
I'd put it up on the 'bay, Sheziwite goes for over $70.00/bf when you can find it. Out of my price range right now.
Maiden69
I must have to say that the quality of your work is getting better! I don't like the white pickguard with 3 single coils on a EVH but as long as you like it that's what matter. I see quite some orange peel on the top coat, hope it turns alright when you colorsand and polish, wait until the laquer is completely cured before polishing. AlGeeEater
Sorry i oculdnt help Drak, but my local guitar sotre has a couple of guitars just like mine(was) Madien, Thank you. There is a little orange peel but when i sand it down flat and such it will be pretty good. Im sure it will flatten out a bit. And acually, im not to crazy about the white pickgaurd either but i realized that as i was laying down the yellow Im sure i will grow to love it tho. Lacquer cures fast around here. Its wierd because in 3 weeks the lacquer is seriously hard as a rock! I cant even push a nail print into it. But i will still polish in a week. Not saturday im to busy so probaly monday. Then leave it until its hard and reassmble it. I also added a skunk stripe to the neck which i forgot to show: And yes that was the guitar before i stripped it... Ace
A shame that it's front routed so you have to use a pickguard. My idea on the pickguard: once it's on, why don't you take (perhaps even) red masking tape and pinstripe it, continuing the yellow lines. You could even go for a black pickguard (or paint it), to make it blend in more . It's just really distracting from the classic beautiful black/yellow colour scheme in my opinion. so long ace
AlGeeEater
I should, but i was thinking about the possibility of using a clear pickgaurd or modify mine to cover all the routes and such. Im still not sure yet tho. Its going to take a lot of thinking during school to figure something out Edited November 3, 2004 by AlGeeEater
MzI
what bout an inverse to the body, yellow pickguard with black stripes continuing where the yellow strips are under the pickguard MzI
Maiden69
I like the clear pickguard idea, but I got a brain teaser for you. If you go to an engraving place they have multi layered material you can do a pickguard from, you can get a black-yellow-black-white, at least they use to have it. you can mark where you want the yellow lines to be showing and have them cut it, then you can mix some 2 aprt acrylik and cover the pickgauard, sand level polish and voila, smooth continuation of the stripes. A lot of work but it will look much better than a solid color or clear one.
AlGeeEater
i came up with a corny half-a@@ed idea. Cut wood peice and fill in the cavities sand it flush with the body and paint it the same way with body still using a clear pickgaurd. Something like that. I will shield the cavities too so maybe i can get some black paint and paint it over the foil i dunno well see after its polished tho. MzI...Thats a great idea! i have a spare pickgard for this strat. I might be able to do something like that. Keep the ideas comming. Im running out of ideas at school
AlGeeEater
Wait it just hit me...How about a wooden pickgaurd or a metal or alluminum one. I can paint all of them with the colors that i want...
Ace
Hmm, your idea of cutting a wood piece to fill in the cavity bears one problem...where are you gonna put the electronics? Filling in the cavity and then rear routing would be pretty much work I think. Using a pickguard and designing it in one of the ways suggested should give you ample possibilities while still being half way easy to do. Can't wait to see what you're gonna come up with. I would probably nick the "inverse color scheme" off of MzI if I were to build an EvH tribute strat like that. I would first spray the body yellow, put the (black) pickguard on, then do the masking tape job, cut the masikng tape with an x-acto where it goes onto the pickguard, take the pickguard off, spray black on the body and yellow on the pickguard. Would guarantee for a matching pinstriping on both items (or so I have to guess) so long ace
Maiden69
why complicate our existance in lieu of the perfect look, huh! Just get the pickguard you have now, prep it and mask it, and shoot the black and yellow stripes and get a set of black Pup covers & knobs, that's it. AlGeeEater
will the paint stick to the pickgaurd, or would i have to sand it with like 600 grit for it to stick?
Maiden69
I never had a problem painting over plastic, I usualy sand with 400 and then follow that with adehision promoter, you can find it in auto paint places, thy use it a lot to paint on rubber and plastic bumpers.
