Epi_47 Posted May 24, 2003 Report Posted May 24, 2003 Im getting a tele-style build-it-yourself guitar kit that comes with all the materials needed except for finish. I am thinking of using an oil-based stain on the basswood body, and then finishing over it with tung oil. Any feedback or better ideas? Could you please give me specific directions on how to best finish the guitar? Quote
westhemann Posted May 25, 2003 Report Posted May 25, 2003 i think you might need to condition the wood beforehand to get a more even stain.i stained a basswood body and the endgrain stained MUCH darker than the face.(the endgrain is the sides of the guitar) Quote
arrowheadguitars Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 you may find bass wood is too soft for an oil finish - I'm refinishing an Ibanez at the moment and it's like balsa Paul Quote
