sjaguar13
I got some new inlays for my guitar, but they are smaller than the ones I already have. If I drill out the old ones, there will be a gap when I put in the new ones. What should I do?
Brian
What kind of material are the inlays in the neck and the new one's? Are they the same basic shape or different? Also what kind of fret board are you doing this on?
sjaguar13
This is a really cheap neck. It came on a guitar I bought for $35. There is no name on it at all. I don't know what the inlays are made out of, the new ones are either clear plastic or maybe glass. The fret board is dark, but I suck at wood stuff, so I can't tell you what it's made out of. sjaguar13
Can I just use some kind of clear epoxy or super glue and use enough that it fills in the gap around the new inlay?
LGM Guitars
use epoxy, but scrape some pastel chalk with the edge of a blade into powder that is the same color as the fretboard, mix it into your epoxy, and then use that as fill around your new inlay. sjaguar13
Where do I get the epoxy, and is there a good kind? Also, do I just go to a craft store looking for chalk? I have a darker fret board. Do they make chalk in dark brown, and how close does it have to match?
Brian
The closer the better and yes the craft store should have both that and the epoxy
sjaguar13
I'd say the new one is about 2/3 the size of the old one. Is the epoxy supposed to be clear? Is there a good brand to use? Also, my board is brown with some black in it. Should I get both brown and black chalk and mix them both with the epoxy?
the third eye
what shape and size is the inlay?
sjaguar13
They are both circles; dots. The old ones are ~5.6cm and the new ones are ~4cm
the third eye
:o whoa 5.6cm? for neck dots? you sure this is the right measurement?
LGM Guitars
I'm guessing he means millimeters, since 5.6cm would be nearly 2 1/4" which is wider than most fretboards LOL
sjaguar13
Yeah, that's mm not cm. Does anyone know the name of the clear jewelry epoxy?
the third eye
epoxy 330 i think you may be better off making new inlays same thing i'm doing soon
