tsl602000
Vigier fretless guitar What do you guys think? Would it be very hard to play?
westhemann
i think it would be easy to play.like a violin.it looks great but i would like to hear it played.
westhemann
i think it would be outstanding for wild leads, but i didn't see any fret markers so you would know your position on the neck.
hezochiah
It looks sweet, but would probably be hard to get used to. If I suck on a regular guitar, I could imagine how bad I would sound on that.
tsl602000
I'm thinking of building a fretless neck and paint the frets on. But I can't even play with frets....
tsl602000
My bass player has a few fretless guitars and I love the purring sound of those axes. I'd imagine I'd slide up and down the neck all day..hehe
westhemann
once on this forum a guy made a suggestion to cut fret slots as normal but instead of frets put in a piece of different colored wood and sand it flush.i don't remember who made it but i thought it was a cool idea. tsl602000
yeah... that sounds like a cool idea... just some maple dust and epoxy into a rosewood fretboard
westhemann
yeah or stainless steel, purpleheart on ebony, anything really.
tsl602000
I could even ask Alex to puke on it.. sand it down and put laquer over it. I'm sure he'd love that! :-)

Speedy McFeely
i have played a fretless guitar before. i have to tell you that it drove me nuts, i had the hardest time just playing chords. i rely on the frets to find my way around, because i don't look at the fret board when i play. plus when i would play anything when a tough chord, forget it. i think you should go down to guitar center (if you have one around) and pick up a ripley fretless and just give it a go. i hated it personally, but then again i play guitars with ginormous frets. as far as a metal fret board, i think that would rule, so long as i could get frets
imikeyi
I think they'd be hard to play too.. Because the fret wire is obviously what causes the note to remain largely correct no matter where you place your finger in the fret.. but without the wire, everythings gonna sound sharp or flat!! westhemann
i think it would be best for leads and such.consider it like a different instrument altogethr.kind of an electric picking violin.
ryeisnotcool2
id at least have the fret markers! but then again the notes could still sound sharp or flat. i guess if you were just playing 1 string at a time it would be ok. but forget playing full chords! stockler707
I think it would be cool to have an ebony fingerboard with jetblack fretwires so it would look like a fretless, because they look cool, but play with frets.

chemical_ali
most instruments have the dots on the side, like how most guitars have dots on the face of the neck and on the sides. if you want to hear a fretless guitar in action listen to the artist known as "bumble foot." he was featured about a year back in the british guitar magazine guitar techniques. he's on the album, "the alchemists," which is a compilation of many guitar musicians with different styles (mainly shredders). i own the album and it is pretty good. bumble foot's song is really unique.
