PLUCKyou Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 I was wondering if it would be safe to mill down the part on a fender tremolo where the springs are attatched to, so that it will fit in my guitar that i am building...the guitar that i'm building is going to be thin so the thing would be sticking out the back...and i can't imagine that being to great...i was just wondering if this would effect the way it worked... thanks Quote
javacody Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 You probably could, however, you may have to re-drill the holes where the string ball ends sit and also the holes where the springs attach. How much would you be taking off? Quote
PLUCKyou Posted January 31, 2005 Author Report Posted January 31, 2005 well the guitar i'm building is going to be about 1 5/16" thick so it's not terribly thin but it will be too thin for a fender tremolo...so there wouldn't be that much taken off of it...yeah i figured i would have to redrill the holes but it shouldn't be too hard...as long as this doesn't effect the way it works Quote
crafty Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 You're going to lose a bit of fulcrum power when you mill down the block a 1/2 inch, so you'll probably wind up using one or two springs instead of three or four. Let us know how it turns out. Quote
PLUCKyou Posted January 31, 2005 Author Report Posted January 31, 2005 yeah no problem...i'm gonna order a black one and mill it down at school on the milling machine....i'll let ya know how it goes Quote
Kevan Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Be careful when re-drilling the spring holes. Not all of them are 90 degrees- some go in at an angle. Quote
PLUCKyou Posted February 1, 2005 Author Report Posted February 1, 2005 Oh okay...i'll just copy what the factory did when i get my new one in...thanks Quote
