glorifiedg84 Posted February 4, 2005 Report Share Posted February 4, 2005 What do I do when a screw on my Les Paul won't tighten anymore and just keeps spinning? Nalo1022 Posted February 4, 2005 Report Share Posted February 4, 2005 Wich screww is it? if its a screw for astrap buttom a few ppl have suggested fill the hole with wood glue adn a toothpick and that allows for enough grip. If it is for a cavity cover you may be able to get away with just fillign the hole with a lil glue letting it dry them putting the screw right back in....i would suggest super glue for thisitll harden the surrounding wood so you wont have this probelm agian. thedoctor Posted February 5, 2005 Report Share Posted February 5, 2005 You got two real booger places for stripped wood screw threads. The jackplate is in the endgrain of the body and it hates threaded fasteners. If the wood left in the hole looks like a powdery mess, go with Nalo's fix of good wood glue and as many toothpicks as you can stuff in there. Let dry for 2 days. 2 days. 2 days. Meegs666 Posted February 5, 2005 Report Share Posted February 5, 2005 i had this problem on my duojet, the strap buttons stripped the inside of the hole. so i used epoxy. i injected it in the hole and let it sit for a sec then i screwed in the screw. they havent come loose since. thedoctor said it best, 2 days. crafty Posted February 6, 2005 Report Share Posted February 6, 2005 For the cavity cover: fill the hole with baking soda. Drop a "drop" of superglue or CA onto the hole. You will see a little puff of smoke--do not breathe it in--now you can use the screw again. For the jack plug: drill out the hole with a 3/16 bit, sharpen a 1/4 dowel rod to a point with a pencil sharpener, fill hole with wood glue, insert pointed dowel into hole as far as it will go, snap off with a pair of wire cutters, "stuff" excess dowel into hole as far as it will go, let dry for a couple hours, reinstall screw and jack plate.
