txisan
Hi I have a 88 hamer californian. In that time Hamer used nitro to finish the guitars. Now, this guitar has crack lines like in a glass!! How can I fix this?? Must I refinish the guitar?? Thanks.
Daniel Sorbera
Nitro can check very easily when you move it from hot to cold quickly. Edited February 2, 2006 by Godin SD
Drak
It's called checking. Did you move the guitar from hot to cold real fast or vicey-versey lately? To refinish the entire guitar over some checking issues is like driving a thumbtack with a hammer, a little overkill unless refinishing guitars is a hobby of yours. And if you refinish it you will severly devalue it.
Devon Headen
But it is the only way to fix it. That's what he asks. A little checking is no huge problem.
Batfink
"Hi I have a 88 hamer californian. In that time Hamer used nitro to finish the guitars. " Hey, didn't we tell you over on the HFC to live with it !, out of 17 nitro'd Hamer's i've got 9 of them have checked, nothing to do apart from re-fin or live with it. If you do try to fix it you'll end up with a bigger mess than you started with. People may say you can fix it but in 20 years i've never seen one that didn't look worse off for someone trying to 'fix' it. Hell, people pay thousands nowadays to get new guitars "relic'd" like this. Jem.
