Blueroomstudios Posted February 25, 2005 Report Share Posted February 25, 2005 Decided to try adding a flamed maple veneer to a RG body. Got two pieces of veneer from Grizzly. It was Sangria red as you can see in the cavities. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Blu...os/DSC00363.jpg Stains are from Stew Mac. I did a double black wash first, sanded it back then went with a pretty strong blue. The faux binding came as an after thought. Sanding and some detail work with Xacto knife on that. RGGR Posted February 25, 2005 Report Share Posted February 25, 2005 Great looking project. Are you gonna do something about the pick-up cavities??? They kinda look bit outta wack. Maybe if you had sprayed them with some black before glue fineer on, it would have blended in a bit nicer. Or are you gonna paint shielding paint in cavities. I cant tell good, but it looks like the flame got lost there odr it might just be the pic. Ans there is a white line running down the center of the veneers, is that from the pic too? The veneer came from Griizzly already bookmatched and glued. Instead of separating them i mounted it that way. That's the glue line you see. I am considering doing a pinstripe there to hide it. And how to prevent the figure from going away, is a tough one, did you sanded the black? If so that might be the reason, veneer is thin and don't like sandpapaer that much. I have looked at tutorial section and looked at vineer link.......but no reference there to glueing. Maybe I overlooked it. Thanks. And yeah, I did notice that glue line too. Blueroomstudios Posted February 26, 2005 Author Report Share Posted February 26, 2005 yeah I guess with the Brian way you don't really have glue joining the two pieces of veneer together. I might have lost a bit in the sanding process. It's very positional though. A move of a couple feet really makes it disappear and come back.
