Jorge Fernandez Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 Hi all I'm in the process of pickup selection. Because I'm trying to made a PRS-copy I was thinking in get the original PRS pickups, the HFS and the Vintage Bass humbuckers. They are 120$ online. My project is a mahogany body, mahogany neck-thru and a maple top set. I'm interested in getting a clear sound, no heavy or hot rock music style :-) What do you think about this pickups? Anybody has use it in a custom project? What pickup do you recommend to use instead of the original to get a similar sound? Any comment is welcome! Thanks Quote
crafty Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 Seymour Duncan's Custom (bridge) and '59 (neck) should get you there for about 60% of the cost from PRS. Buuuutttt...if you're not looking for a heavy or hot rock sound, look into a set of SD Alnico II Pro humbuckers. Slash and other rockers use 'em, but they're not over-the-top high output pickups like the HFS and Custom are designed to be. The APHs have a nice musical sound to them and very low string pull, so you get some really nice, clear sustain. Very brilliant sound when not distorted, and still pretty clear when distorted. Quote
blackburncustomguitars Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 Hi, I'd go with a Bartolini ZBS70 in the neck and a ZBS80 in the bridge. Great clean sounds that can be split, tapped, etc. And can be overdriven beautifully. I would get ahold of ron@starspickups.com Peace, DaveHi all I'm in the process of pickup selection.
