Jon Bell
Hi, I've been lurking for a few months on this board but this my first post. I'm looking at building my own pickups but I'm having major problems finding the parts, especially magnets. I know Stewmac sell pickup wire and a winding machine and I can use old pickups for the bobbin. Does anyone know where to buy suitable magnets for pickups? Will any magnet do? Can you buy sheets of magnet that you cut to size? If so where from? Any help would be great. Thanks, Jon
Brian
Welcome to the forum Found this one over at AllParts, but this is definatly something to look into I though we had a link to a pickup parts supplier I'll keep looking though. I did find an interesting book here
Drak
Look up Jason Lollar at Lollar Guitars. He wrote a book on 'winding your own' a few years ago, and I think there is a portion of the book devoted to parts sourcing. Maybe it's listed on his website. Really great guy. Jehle
I have an old spool of 1/4 lb magnet wire that I've held onto for the last 13 years. I always thought that I would wind it into a pickup one of these days. From the looks of it, this stuff is probably from the 60's or 70's. I dug it out of a trash bin in the science building back in college.
