Lee_ Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 (edited) I'm sorry if this has been answerd before, but the search didn't come up with anything usefull. I know an oz is 28 grams, but how many pieces of shell, let's say 1.5 mm thick., are there in an oz? Thanks Edited October 8, 2005 by Lee_ Quote
thegarehanman Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 You're not going to get any answers saying how many pieces of shell because that's related to the size of the pieces you get. The actually surface area 1.5mm thick pieces will covers is a bit hard to approximate since different shells have different densities. The ounce of abalone I bought for my last project covered about 4 square inches, granted it was in small pieces that were 1"x1" on average. Quote
cSuttle Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 You get about three large pieces (2-1/2" x 1-1/2 or larger) or about 5-6 smaller pieces. Unless you're making dots, get the larger pieces. The smaller ones are hard to work with for someone new to inlay. Quote
