daveq
What inlay materials could I use with a birdseye maple fretboard? Would abalone look weird? I guess it would have to be some sort of dark material, right?
Jupiter
I presonally don't care for the look of abaolone of MOP on a maple fretboard. I prefer a darker inlay. Would it be possible to use something like onyx?
daveq
Any idea where I could find onyx? If I go with black plastic, does anyone know if it can be sanded without seeing scratches?
Sean
I have been considering doing a maple board with ebony and rosewood inlays.

daveq
Sounds great. Does anyone sell pre-cut inlay material in ebony or rosewood? Are hole saws available that would be small enough to do it yourself?
PaulNeeds
If you can cut it, lapis lazuli has been a long-time ambition of mine for a maple fretboard.
Jupiter
They sell all kinds of exotic , er, rocks at a store in a mall near me. It's called Crystal Visions. It's actually a new age/ Wicca/ insert uncoventional spirtualitly of choice here-type-of-store. They have onyx there, and all other types of really pretty stones. If theres any stores like that near you, i'd check them out.
