Scott Rosenberger
Matt keep an eye out for a Hafler/Bogner Triple Giant. if you're patient and check often enough you can get one for around $300 It's basically the poorman's Bogner Fish Here's one but it's a little pricey Edited November 8, 2005 by Scott Rosenberger

goth_fiend
is there any specific reason you want a tube preamp, you may want to check out a rocktron chameleon, as they are cheap (now) and sound absolutly incredible when paired with a tube poweramp, I have one in my rack and must say, I have NEVER needed to use more then about 70% of the gain available and I play melodic death/black/power/prog with it, you may be suprised. egdeltar
I have to second Alex's comments about the Digitech GSP 2101 (Make sure it has the expansion chip and copntrol board) This preamp was heavily used in the 90's by TONS of death metal bands, it was basically THE preamp at the time for that tone. The bogner is also a great high gain preamp, not as virsatile as the Digitech but definately has that crunch you want. Another companey to look out for is ENGL, these guys make some seriously killer amps. HUGE tight bottom end and Razors sharp gains.
