Gustom
I recently bought a guitar with a flamed maple top, it has got an natural satin oil/wax-finish(sorry have got no pics) but I'm planning on making it a black stain finish. Do I need to remove the oil/wax-finish on this guitar before I stain it? If so, how do I remove it? Is it possible to stain it without removing the oil/wax-finish? SwedishLuthier
As far as I know you have to sand it way. Oil penetrates the wood, as opposed to a finish that sits on the surface. That means that you have some serious sanding to do.

So there's no way to get a stained look without removing the oil?
