thegarehanman
why didn't you relic the hardware? looks like the bridge and output jack could use a touch of vinegar .

Mandrake
By the way the gold hardware was installed very late, short before Stevie's death, so it shouldn't be aged too much anyway. Roland

Mandrake
ive always wondered, what is that really light part of the wood above the neck and middle pickups? what is that from? ← It's from heavy strumming.
Nitefly SA
wouldnt it be dirty just like the rest though? its always dead white
cole
what that is is the natural color because when he played behind his head and back he hit that part of the guitar scraping away the top layers of paint, sweat, dirt, and wood. SoundAt11
Wow, looks pretty accurate to me as a casual SRV fan with a few of his DVD's. Close enough to fool most people.

Here's what the white area really comes from. Edited January 3, 2006 by Mandrake

You might make some more worn areas so some more sunburst can be seen, like this http://guitarhq.com/colors/strat63b.jpg or maybe like this http://www.provide.net/~woodrails/oldpics/str62wsc.jpg (pictures taken from http://www.provide.net/~cfh/fenderc.html) Edited January 3, 2006 by Mandrake

Calum_Barrow
That's really good. I'd like to have a go at a relic one day (not that extreme though). However, there's always (more often than not anyway) one thing I don't like about SRV #1 copies - The wrong writing on the pickguard. I like the squarer font he used to keep it more true to the original; and I think it looks better anyway. However, it's still great.
Mandrake
I have made some modifications to mine in the meantime. - I installed Schaller gold tuners with white/perloid knobs. They look similar to the 80's Fender ones that are on the custom shop tribute. I never saw a photo of Stevie with those tuners, but he must have had them at some point in his career, otherwise the Fender guys wouldn't have installed them on the tribute. And if not - well, he might have ;-) Those Schaller tuners are a lot better than the cheap kluson copies I had before, too. - I added some more wear on the body to make it look more like Stevie's in the late 80's. I applied some yellow stain on some areas of exposed wood to imitate the yellow base lacquer that can be seen on some photos. Maybe I will add some more wear (remove more lacqer) to the back, too. - oh, and very important: some electric wire isolation for the higher strings, like Stevie had ;-) http://www.koehrsen.de/roland/relic04a.jpg http://www.koehrsen.de/roland/relic14a.jpg http://www.koehrsen.de/roland/relic05a.jpg http://www.koehrsen.de/roland/relic06a.jpg Edited January 6, 2006 by Mandrake

Nitefly SA
the font where it is engraved into the pickguard, the one that looks like script. The one that is a sticker/space tape is closer to the original.
marksound
The engraved initials on the production models represent the decals put on the prototype model by the Tonight Show staff. Scheduled to play it on the show one night, Stevie saw that it had a blank pickguard and refused to play it without his initials. That pickguard was later installed on #1 and is still there today. cole
I get alot of people telling me I don't have the right letters on the pickguard and I do. These are actually what he had on his strat last. In 1990 he played on the tonight show, he was showing his sig. strat but it didnt have the decal on the pickguard so the tonight shows graphic department made some for him and stevie love them and used them until he died. Thats why the sig. strats pickguard has them engraved in the pickguard. As for the tuners, Wanna know alittle secret. Not many people know this but the tuners that are on the tribute strat are actually Fender Elite gold tuners they were only made in the igloo shape 1983 than after the made them square. As for stevie he only used them in 1986( you can see this on his appearence on saturday night live) soon after he put these on #1's neck was unusable due too its many fret jobs. When he put the neck of Red on #1 he left the elite tuners on the original neck, than when he died Rene(stevies guitar tech) put the original neck back on and gave it to Jimmy(stevies brother). or atleast thats my theory I've done alot of research on Stevies guitar, my guitars are the real deal and I hope this can clear anything anyone has questions on.
