loudandproud
Alright so this is my official Telecaster thread. I will beginning work with in the next 3 weeks. The first thing i did was make a practice template. I did two on my les paul as practice. The first was good but got a little rough when cut it out. Here is my practice LP template on card. Practice Les Paul Template (Good) So, after that i began to make the template for the tele. I went down to the local shop and they were more than happy to help. I also stopped at dic blic on the way. This was the result Telecaster Template (Good) Pickup Template Neck Template Heel Carve Stomach Carve and Heel Carve
loudandproud
Ok so here is my first problem. The one piece of maple i have is warped. The problem is the it wont return flat unless pressure is applied. Not much, but it does need it to go flat. The top is going to need joined and surface plane as it is rough. Joining the top is posing the problem. How can i flatten the top to join it, If i dont it will have a gap in the seem... So I came up with this idea, Glue the to the back and the join and use a ebony (something dark) lamination in the center like this. > Problem solved. Here is my wood. signguy
Hi ya loud. Do you have lots of extra wood there? If so, why not rip the board once or twice, re plane the edges and glue them back together alternating the grain. One piece rings up, next rings down etc... That's the usual method and you end up with a piece of wood less prone to future warping because of the alternating grains.. Just a thought, but you'd lose 2 or 3 thicknesses of your saw blade. thegarehanman
You might want to consider routing for your neck and drilling for your bridge first. The location of those are much more critical than the location of the pickups.

loudandproud
BLING Alright, today i got some work done. I made a template that fits the neck beautifully. I then practiced the route on a 2 inch piece of pine and it fit in nicely. Snug enough that it should have good contact but not so tight im worried about the finish thickness.
