RageNRepublican Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 Recently I got a good deal on a 93 G&L ASAT, natural finish, and completely ruined. The previous owner had routed it (messily) and taken off the pickguard, as well as let the hardware rust. This to me is a blessing and a curse, one of the screws holding the tailpeice on is rusted to near powder, but the blessing is that it had 2 Dimarzio PAF pros strapped in (my loot out of the project.) $50 not a bad deal, eh? I intend to use vintage looking and sounding pickups, and maybe a clear face plate that I can slip pictures under (Like the Yahama free art) however these are just ideas. What I need, is help on getting the bridge off, if pictures are needed I can supply them very easily. Quote
thegarehanman Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 You can find special drill bits that work in a counterclockwise motion that are pretty good for removing screws. I think stewmac actually sells some screwdrivers with special heads designed for removing screws. It's a shame the guitar was so badly mistreated; I love G&L's. peace, russ Quote
Nitefly SA Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 or you could drill it out then fill it Quote
crafty Posted January 13, 2006 Report Posted January 13, 2006 Yeah, you can get a set of Screw-Out bits at Sears to get those out. I wouldn't recommend trying to drill the screw out--you'll probably split the body if you try it. Pix are always welcome if you desire an honest inspection of the project. Quote
