and my father inlaw for letting me raid his stash of wood.

Thanks man. I like the flame to. I was kind of surprised to find ash that had a little flame to it. You couldn't see it untill we ran it through the planer. I was also worried that the northern ash would be too bright or harsh sounding but it isnt. It also plays very nice.

Congratulations, it looks to be a very nice instrument. What finish did you choose to put on it?

I used a natural stain and dutch boy lacquer, <rattle cans>. I was going to use black stain so I did some test pieces with a few different stains but the black just didn't look right. when I set them side by side the natural won.
