Druss Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 I'm starting my first build and I'm wanting to build a double headed axe shaped guitar. It's inspired by my imaginary hero Druss, a character from a David Gemmell book. I showed a friend of mine the design I came up with and he said it looked like a Gene Simmons bass, I didn't know he had a double headed axe I only know of the single headed axe. I've done goggle searches and yahoo but I cant find it, I don't wont to copy somebody else's design, I know it's going to be hard not to resemble other guitars but if it looks just like his then I want to change mine. If any body knows where I could find a pic of his or different double headed axe guitars I'd appreciate a link, believe me I'm not being lazy I've searched for my self but I just can't find what I'm looking for. Nitefly SA Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 gene never had a double sided axe bass, only a single sided, its an odd guitar so if you see another axe guitar, naturally you'll associate it with his, but to my knowledge its never been done. Quote

Good luck with it, sounds like a cool shape Quote
Druss Posted February 21, 2006 Author Report Posted February 21, 2006 I still haven't found it if it exists here's a link to a version of Druss's axe from Raven Armory http://www.deathwalker.co.uk/Snaga.htm I'll be going with the butterfly wings but I want a longer gluing surface to the neck than the axe has with it's haft. I think I've posted pics of my bass before but here's a couple more, this was my first sort of tribute to "Snaga". http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ss/100_0002.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ss/100_0003.jpg Quote
Nitefly SA Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 wow you really like this druss guy eh? anyway, i think that axe would make a great headless guitar Quote
Druss Posted February 21, 2006 Author Report Posted February 21, 2006 Thats pretty cool the only problem I'm going to have is I'm a woodgrain guy so it may look strange to people after I'm done but you know I'm not building it to sell. I know it would make more since to have a paint job and probably look a lot better but it's going to be woodgrain. I guess if anyone says any thing to me about it I could always strike them with it. Nitefly SA Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 (edited) what would be cool if you did one of those cross rubs, ill try to see if i can find one EDIT: The Gibson Voodoo, red grain, black finish, theres a really cool bass with white grain and a black finish but i couldn't find it. http://namm.harmony-central.com/SNAMM02/Co...-Paul-large.jpg Edited February 21, 2006 by Nitefly SA Quote
Druss Posted February 21, 2006 Author Report Posted February 21, 2006 Yea thats sort of what I had in mind I'm planning on following Guitarfrenzy's Tutorial the finish any way. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...%20epoxy&st=180 Quote

Nitefly SA Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 (edited) Because i have absolutely no life, i tried to make a mock up of the grain thing, using the strat pic you linked Edited February 21, 2006 by Nitefly SA Quote
Druss Posted February 21, 2006 Author Report Posted February 21, 2006 Wow!!! Thats bad ass I was going to use black and gray but after seeing that I may just go with black and the natural wood color. It really looks good with woodgrain, I take my comment about the paint job back I think that looks better. Thanks a lot... Quote
Druss Posted February 22, 2006 Author Report Posted February 22, 2006 I haven't even thought about this until now but can I even use that method with cherry? I mean will the cherry grain take the epoxy like that or can you only use certain types of woods? The wood I have has a real nice grain pattern and it has a couple of knots that I hope to keep just because I like the way they look. Quote
GnognoFasciani Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 (edited) This is my favourite Axe-shaped guitar, I hope It can be useful for you! http://www.mcfguitars.it/axe.htm Edited February 22, 2006 by GnognoFasciani Quote
Druss Posted February 22, 2006 Author Report Posted February 22, 2006 Thats pretty wild I liked it better before the painted it though. Quote
Nitefly SA Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 (edited) If your guitar has nice grain than that epoxy method will work just fine i think Edited February 27, 2006 by Nitefly SA Quote
orgmorg Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Nope, you need an open grained wood like ash to make that finish work right. Quote
