CoryKer
The mahogany neck looks surprisingly nice against the finish. I really like the abalone side dots... nice little touch of class. The finish is very nice... any details on that?
john
the finish is just car paint, a few coats of high build primer sanded smooth with 600 grit, blue basecoat from a fiat punto, and clear on top. then sanded back with 1200 grit and machine polished using Farecla G3 compound. the paint is all acryllic 2k car paint. it dries rock hard and is very dent/crack resistant. Guitarfrenzy
Very nicely done, I love it!! The paint job looks very well done, and I personally like the color you used. Good job bro... Now if I could only learn to play a fretless bass better, I'd ask to borrow it.. haha
john
Hi There, the funny thing is , this is the first fretless i have ever played... seriuosly! i decided i loved the sound of them after listening to pino palladino play in "new york minute" by don henley, so then i decided i would build one knowing full well that i would have to learn how to play it..... hence the fret lines jd. CoryKer
the finish is just car paint, a few coats of high build primer sanded smooth with 600 grit, blue basecoat from a fiat punto, and clear on top. then sanded back with 1200 grit and machine polished using Farecla G3 compound. the paint is all acryllic 2k car paint. it dries rock hard and is very dent/crack resistant. Well, it turned out looking great. The whole aesthetic of the guitar is phenomenal... very slick and elegant. it's actually quite similar to what I want to do with a project build I'll be starting this summer, but with a maple neck instead of mahogany. I knew I wanted a white finish, but a little different... that blue basecoat seems to be what I'm after.
Mickguard
Just saw this one (your links in GOTM don't work--I vote that you re-enter this next month). Actually pretty breathtaking, I really like the simplicity of it. Love the reverse Rick-style headstock too. Still could use some kind of pickguard --or maybe one of those precision-style pickup covers...just to provide a little design relief. But that's a personal choice
yahilltrade
OHHHMYYYYGAWWWWDD! thats the most beautiful simple bass ice ever seen. do you think you could mail me the links where you bought the hadrware from? thanks alot. Tiny Tim
What did you use for the position line markers? nice work great looking fretless! Tim
psw
I want a commission...last time I helped out Stew with his pictures on his Stew-Craft entry he won the thing!! Really nice work...it's just so nice to see a guitar that falls outside of the cult of the fancy wood...just a shame that we couldn't actually see the guitar...till now...see above. Pino's a great player and I love that sound so have a fretless bass myself...it's a great instrument and yours is a fine example...simple and straight forward and a conventional 4 strings, just what you'd want, and just like mine...long, lean and leathal... Wouldn't mind a shot of the whole guitar as well as these arty pics but if it's anything as long as mine you'd have to get up on the roof to fit it all in...hehehe... As for a pickguard...maybe he plays without a pick...idch...iy, iy, iy! Nice stuff... pete
screwdelulu
Great Work, love the simplicity and the super clear work... i decided i loved the sound of them after listening to pino palladino play in "new york minute" by don henley... Funny thing it's not Pino Palladino on New York Minute but great Timothy B. Schmitt.
john
ah, i stand corrected! thanks for all hte nice comments guys, sorry was a bit lazy with the pics! did`nt get onto the net much lately... @yahilltrade, all of the hardware is from stewmac! @Tiny Tim, the position line markers are a bluish silver paint( toyota 1AO ) painted on with the aid of some careful masking! once again, Thanks! john.
