  1. Looking great man, I just love laminated veneers necks. Maybe you should resize the pictures so it would be easier to watch... Itai
  2. Look at this 12 string nut: http://www.elderly.com/accessories/items/T1568.htm I took it to CAD and measured so everything's fine now Thanks anyway, Itai
  3. I know this one, but it's won't work on a 12 string...
  4. Hi all. I am building a 12-string electric. I purchased a 4.83 mm width non-slotted nut, and I am not sure how I should calculate the location of the slots. I checked the nut of an off-shelf 12-string acoustic, which it was smaller than mine. My questions: 1. What is the correct spacing between each two strings? between the string pairs? 2. Should the thicker strings be closer to each other than the thinner ones? Thanks in advance, Itai
  5. Hey all I haven't been here (and in "guitar making buisness) for a long long time... Done some carving on the neck and body, also control cavity routing, some bad pickup cavity routing and the bridge has placed. I noticed that in this great deal of time things got a little messy, not really the nice&clean work i like to see. Anyway, here are two pictures: From another angle Carving is very hard for me, at least on this one. The Les-paul carving is so much easier than PRS's style. Good day, Itai
  6. Just a thought: If you want it to be semi natural finish, you can go with a burst-type finish... Good luck
  7. That is beautiful! I really like the binding on the fingerboard...
  8. Seems like it being used as tonewood: http://www.larriveeforum.com/smf/index.php...c=5271.msg44810 http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdproducts....ysian+Blackwood http://www.colonialtonewoods.com/pages/aus...anblackwood.htm Itai
  9. I'm already thinking about the finish on this one, and want to understand a few things: What is the difference between grain filler and sanding sealer? which one of them should i put first? When i pore fill, how should i know if it needs another apply? Brian, The fingerboard is Indian rosewood i got from stewmac, and i'm really not satisfied with the quality of this one. I guess sanding it with finer grits will make it allright to use...
  10. That is strange. I've speaked with a well known luthier and he said he clamp the glued pieces only a bit before they "crank" the wood. sounds reasonable, since you want as little glue as possible in the joint, so there are no visible glue line...
  11. Yes, but deeper in round objects also means wider. a little pain but i'll get it done with chisels.
  12. Just routed the channel, it is a bit off (1 mm left from the center). No big deal, I just wish I could work more precise. Done it with a rail guide, how would you align it so the channel is excatly centered? Another thing is the truss rod nut a bit larger than the rod itself, what a cheapo .
  13. Didn't know... I hope i can make them - don't have the money or the time for another order (shipping to israel is expensive plus very time consuming...) Thanks for the quick response
  14. I made a big mistake and bought 3 (!) sets of Large knobs Gotoh tuners. I'm currently in the making of 12 string and wanna fit those but it just take to much space. Is it possible to make new knobs for the tuners out of wood? Someone did it? Thanks
