Mattia
In part it's that 'ol tradition thing, but I also think the sheer size of a bass means it can get away with more bold combinations, stronger stripey contrasts (nothing behind the bridge, after all, the whole length is string, or almost) and laminations because it all scales up nicely, and looks more balanced that way. The aesthetic of this bass, for example, wouldn't translate well to a guitar; an equivalent instrument would have a tiny, tiny body. Balance gets all shot to hell. mikhailgtrski
+1 The old Alembic basses always looked much better than their guitar counterparts - IMO.
psw
True, but if there were sound reasons for doing it, you'd think someone would have some success at some level. No, I can't get over the hippy/greatful dead alembic connection...I never really thought the design was really thought out or developed enough, especially in the guitar, way over worked... pete
RIM Basses
Yeah for sure its a shame we dont see more custom guitars being less conservative,Im going to be making my look on a Les Paul in the near future with my headstock design.Should be interesting.About the bridge, well Im a Toolmaker and I have a milling machine.I basicly had an idea and went ahead and machined into some wood.the saddles and tailpiece are made from stock brass bar and flat brass plate. The intonation is adjusted by hand then once I have it set on my korg rack tuner the saddle screws down into the wooden bridge with a tiny No.2 screw. The height at the bridge is done with a small needle file.very simple ideas are best in my book. This custom bridge will only be used on my fretless basses until I design a better bridge for frtted basses. Cheers for the comments once again lads, Robbie.

Maurits
Wow, that's simply stunning. One of the best headstocks I've ever seen, plus that fretboard very pretty to say the least. Keep up the spectacular work. If only one day I would come close to being a fifth as good as that bass turned out I'd be a happy man. GOTM?
