The-Jackyl
I want to take an electric guitar pickup and install it in an acoustic guitar. Does anybody have suggestions on how to go about doing this? I won't need a preamp will I? At the very most I will have to install a Volume Control right? unclej
i've installed several electric guitar pups on acoustic guitars..mostly older guitars that i intended to use only for bottle neck slide playing. i've done them with no controls and i've done them with volume and tone controls. you don't need a preamp at all. if you want controls just go to seymour duncan's website and look up one pickup with volume and tone and follow that schematic. good luck. The-Jackyl
Great! I appreciate your help. One More question...Where do you ground to in an acoustic? In an electric its simple but acoustic?
crafty
That's the problem. Acoustics aren't easily grounded to the strings, so even magnetic pickups made for acoustics are either shielded to the max and humbucking or they have active preamps to block the noise. ansil
well there is a solution to that problem, but it can be a little tedious. you can ad in a piece of metal behind the bridge piece ie the bone or plastic and have it touch all the strings thus grounding it. GregP
Or depending on how the guitar anchors the string, there might be room for a metal strip of some sort there, too.
