chunkielad Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 I have some 5mm (just under as it's been presanded) quilt maple coming and was considering doing a chamber on the tele. Is 5mm going to be strong enough or will it need support? Quote
WezV Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 I have done one with a 3mm koa top before. Works fine Quote
al heeley Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 I have some 5mm (just under as it's been presanded) quilt maple coming ... Out of interest, who is your source for quilted maple tops? I'm itching to get started on my next project, and have not found many outlest in the UK fro figured maple Quote
chunkielad Posted August 18, 2006 Author Report Posted August 18, 2006 My supplier for this one is 'iguitars' on ebay - Marc is also on UKGB under the name iguitars. He's got some lovely flamed pieces on the bay at the minute but I got the last quilt on there - he may well have some more though. Quote
al heeley Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 Thanks for that! He must have put a load more on recently, i just ordered some nice looking quilt from him. I can see a nice natural tru-oil finish coming on, over a mahogany single cut body. Quote
ToneMonkey Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 I would think that Craft Supplies near Buxton is the nearest place for you two (if you want to look at it before you buy). Quote
al heeley Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 That's where I got my flame maple for the chambered tele. Nice piece of wood and about 5/16" thick, but £10 dearer than Marc and no pics to see what you're getting. Quote
chunkielad Posted August 18, 2006 Author Report Posted August 18, 2006 I've always though craft supllies to be expensive to be honest. Quote
WezV Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 Its craft-supplies in bradwell now!! There are some bargains to be had there, especially if you are spending a lot and can haggle, but the price of some of there maple is quite high Quote
ToneMonkey Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 Yeah, it isn't cheap, but when I get mine I go up and sort through piles of wood. Not only do I try to get the nice bits, it's also a perfect day out. The girlfriend loves it Quote
