Flon Klar Guitars
OK then, here's my #2 model, the "Eruption." It's a 4-string fretless bass: bubinga top; curly cherry back; 9-piece bubinga/cherry/maple thru-neck; curly maple fingerboard with a Mirror Coat epoxy coating; Bartolini soapbars with a Bart 9-volt 3-way eq; graphite nut. It has a much rounder, darker tone than the Slasher, but I'm not sure I'd do the epoxy coat on the fingerboard again, as it definitely takes away the "woodiness." http://www.dropshots.com/photos/166367/20060822/172336.jpg http://www.dropshots.com/photos/166367/20060822/172338.jpg Edited August 24, 2006 by Maiden69
Inisheer
Not really my style, but it looks like a good build. That's an interesting shape for the body. And you have some new ideas for headstock shapes too. I give you an A+ for originality. How does it feel to play? It looks kinda skinny with the one horn extending quite far, does it balance ok? Flon Klar Guitars
Thanks bro. Yeah, the plan from the beginning was all about originality of design. It's very playable and well-balanced, and it's quite light-weight, about 8 lbs. fully dressed.
Ben
the plan from the beginning was all about originality of design. If you wanted originality, then you very definitely achieved it! I like most of it, and I like some things very much (love the neck laminates), but that body shape is probably a little too wild for me! Setch
I'd put originality on the back burner for a while, and focus on the pratical aspects of the design. I'd work on achieving straight (ish) string pull at the headstock and fill out the waist a little so you can move the neck pickup a bit further from the bridge (more tonal range that way) I'd like to see the battery housed so that it fits better with the overall vibe of the guitar (maybe cap the quick release cover with veneer cut from the neck laminates). Originality is all well and good, but the traditional shapes of instuments are often reflections of how things work well, and coming up with somethign which looks wild but doesn't function as well is at best a sideways step, more often a backwards one. Your bass horn is an example of getting it right - it looks right, and there ain't no way that bass'll be neck heavy!

Flon Klar Guitars
Thanks Matt. I don't know if there's necessarily anything to "get," so don't worry about that, I'm just getting expressive with whatever comes to mind! Logical Frank
You know--I've thought about it and I'm pretty sure I'm right. You are either gonna have to change the name of that guitar or give it a red paint job w/ black and white stripes.

I don't know how "right" you are, but I'm glad you at least thought about it!

Flon Klar Guitars
Wow thats crazy i would be scared i would hurt myself with that Hey, there's an idea! I could walk through the dark alley behind the club after a gig, carrying the bass, and I'd be perfectly safe- 'cause I'd be armed!!

sheepy
Thats really cool looking. Does the horn that extends up the neck get in the way of playing though (in the case that the bassist actually has to go up that far)?
Flon Klar Guitars
Thanks. No, it's on the side opposite the hand, so it doesn't interfere at all.
