!!METAL MATT!! Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 (edited) ok now I was woundering if I could use any 6string bass pickup other than the EMG-45DC for my 8-string guitar build, I found a MIGHTY MITE MMSA6-BKF 6 STRING ACTIVE PICKUP for 30 bucks and Im wounder if it would work and sound roughly the same as or better than the EMG any ideas or tips? !!METAL MATT!! erikbojerik Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 It will work only if it is a blade-type pickup; forget it if there are individual pole pieces under the hood. There are guys who will custom-wind you a pickup to your spec. But not for $30, you can be sure. Quote
!!METAL MATT!! Posted September 16, 2006 Author Report Posted September 16, 2006 I thought the MIGHTY MITE was a blade-type pickup, so if it is than it will work fine !!METAL MATT!! Quote
Digideus Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 Isnt the EMG 707 big enough to work with 8 strings? Quote
Prostheta Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 (edited) Not unless you reduce the string spacing, and besides it's comparable to an EMG-85 in an EMG-35 sized housing and has seven-string spaced polepieces as opposed to blades. The EMG DCs have blades AFAIK. As for 8-string pickups, try Lundgren. http://www.lundgren.se/index.asp?folid=22&micid=93 Edited September 16, 2006 by Prostheta Quote
