al heeley Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 This is the old Fretless bass neck I'm going to be using, the first pic shows a very ugly headstock. I want to reshape it by trimming, filling the holes and attaching new wood to the sides as shown in the pics. The tuner holes will then need relocating, some of which will maybe fall over the join between the old head and the newly attached wings. Do you think this will be strong enough to modify in this way, or am I asking for trouble? Quote
Maurits Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 (edited) If using strong enough glue I don't think it will be a problem. Edited September 24, 2006 by Maurits Quote
Setch Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 The joint at the end concerns me, since it's end grain, but the sides will be fine. I'd revise the new shape a hair so that the existing headstock is long enough, and just add ears to the sides of the headstock. Quote
WezV Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 i have done it a few times now. like setch says, try and get it so you only have to add wood to the sides Quote
