EKO
Hi there, I have a Les Paul Black beauty, and i want to get a bigsby to match! Ive been doing some research and they're quite expensive especialy in England. I think its the B7 that fits les pauls best? Also i have straplocks on. Any good cheaper copies maybe you use? Any advice or experiences would be useful. cheers
Lord-of-the-strings
Stew Mac has these cool little diddies, check 'em out!
Robert_the_damned
I have an Epi Les Paul that has a B5 style bigsby fitted (came like it so I can't tell you how it was fitted I'm affraid!)....you might want to look into a T-O-M with roller saddles no matter what system you go for! Sambo
Although those stew mac ones are a good idea.... cant beat a bigsby for the look S
EKO
Thanks guys, bigsbys defo look better! A B5 on a les paul? ive been led to believe that they only fit flat top guitars. :S I might pop into a guitar shop and ask them. The B7 looks like a good idea because there is a hole for the straplock to fit through. Im looking to not have to do any body work on my guitar! NJD
I think the B7 fits a Les paul thickness and carve profile best. i know you've gotta pay for those bigsby's but they're classy looking tailpieces - i'd be tempted to go for a genuine article, seeing as it'sgoing on a black beauty. why adorn something as nice as that with anything else? EKO
hmm you're probably right, but i am starting to like the 'les trem' on stewmac. they are very easy to fit. do B7s require body work? im looking at more like £100 for a gold B7. EKO
yeah got that bit whats T-O-M?? thanks for all the help. looks like i might go for the les trem. i dont really want to drill into my guitar!
NJD
Lol sorry - Tune-o-Matic bridge standard les paul bridge basically I can see why you'd opt for a non invasive mod i can't blame you. love those Bigsbys though, i have a trapize tail on my epi Les paul Edited November 8, 2006 by NJD
Robert_the_damned
Here's a very low quality picture of my Les with its bigsby: You'd defenatly have to drill into the top of the guitar to fit a B5, I think you need to drill four holes into the end of the guitar near the strap pin to fit a B7
EKO
yeah thanks guys.. id have to do top work as well. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v40/fabg...ngprogress4.jpg looks like the les trem would be cheapest and easiest... aaaaaahh cant decide. i might pop into my local guitar shop and see what they have. Robert_the_damned
Its not vital but it does really help with tuning stability when you use a trem that replaces the stop tail piece. Mickguard
Its not vital but it does really help with tuning stability when you use a trem that replaces the stop tail piece. I don't like the roller bridges because they rattle a lot (I like to play unplugged sometimes). You can also replace the saddles with Graph Tech string savers --there's a slight change in tone, but they're slippery enough to avoid tuning issues. EKO
yeah right now the tone sounds great! i dont know how much changing the stop tail did that but its good. the tuning seems to hold well as long as you dont go mad. although sometimes you get that string tweak like when you are tuning. ill see how it goes it feels quite smooth.
