12056 Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 i got me some pickups of ebay recently. i got a bridge and a neck, but the bridge PU only has 3 wires: red, white, and the bare wire. the neck has all 5. are they special pickups with special instructions? is the pickups no good? what? thanks. Primal Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 The only difference is that the neck's coils can be split to get a single coil sound. Seymour Duncan should have a diagram showing how to wire them up. Quote
al heeley Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 Do you know the manufacturer? Some have different colour coding on the wires, you need to know which is + and - and earth. Quote
12056 Posted November 7, 2006 Author Report Posted November 7, 2006 so if i just do regular wiring and just leave out the ones i dont have, it will work out fine? Quote
al heeley Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 So who is the manufacturer? If they are SD wiring colour codes, the 3-wire one will be red to live+, white & bare to earth. The 5-wire one will be Black to live+, green and bare to earth, red & white need to be taped together as this is the bit that you could short out to earth to give a coil-tap. Quote

al heeley Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 Glad it's sorted. Here's a good source of reference info on wiring colours: http://guitarelectronics.zoovy.com/categor...ckupcolorcodes/ Quote
