trikke Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 Hei, its my first post here, so hello to everybody i intend to glue together (face to face that is ) four maple planks, all 1 cm thick, and saw my guitar body and neck out from these. My question - is it a good or a bad idea, both soundwise and neck stability wise? Any hints warmly welcome. (why i wanna do it like this - i happen to have the planks lying around in my shed) Quote
Prostheta Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 I suppose it sounds good in terms of lamination stiffness, but have you got any idea of the individual "planks" grain orientation and looked for grain runout? Also, what type of maple is it, and how low is the moisture content? Quote
trikke Posted December 28, 2006 Author Report Posted December 28, 2006 its supposed to be sugar maple, and its flatsawn. is that a problem? unluckily i have no idea about grain run or moisture content but i'm told that the planks are years old. and they sure look straight. So, would it be a total waste of time and wood, or could a guitar built this way be playable? Quote
