daveq
Have any of you used black stain on ebony fretboards? Supposedly, some manufacturers use the stain to remove the brown streaks and give it a more uniform color. I'm not sure if it would ruin the natural look of the wood or not. I'm looking for people who may know more about it or that may have used it at some point. Dave
Scott Rosenberger
I've used it before after re-radiusing some stew mac boards they all of the sudden became streaky whick leads me to believe that stew mac already dyed these boards
daveq
Do you like the end result or does it look like crap? In other words, should I leave the brown streaks or try to stain them away?
Scott Rosenberger
No, by all means dye them. They look great. just make sure all of your sanding is complete first. I sand mine up to 1500 grit first, dye them then when dry re-sand with 1500 until shiney

I think the Gibson Les Paul Customs come like that from the factory. cgtrox
