Rick500 Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 I have a 7/32" straight router bit that I use mostly for routing truss rod slots, but I used it to make a humbucker template and left it in one spot a little too long, long enough to darken it. (It doesn't have a bearing. I was using the shaft itself to follow the depth of the template that had already been cut.) It still cuts fine. Is there any danger of it having been weakened? Should I toss it? Quote
Jon Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Clean it with some pitch spray and possibly sharpen it with a straight diamond file. I try and sharpen my straight router bits at least once every 2-3 months. Quote
prs man Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 if it still cuts you should be good to go. just take small cuts if your using a high speed steel bit what might have happened is the metal heated up and it may have taken some of the hardness out of the steel bit. you might notice it getting dull faster. if this is a carbide tip then you should have no trouble.
